What is your deer camp??

Thought it might be fun to hear about everyone's deer camp... how many folks, who are they, where in the state, what are your accomodations, etc...

My camp consists of 8 guys... oldest 60ish, youngest about 25. Mostly guys my Dad has hunted with for 25 years. We now stay in a beautiful lake home(spoiled I know), but we used to stay in a converted bus and then a small, seasonal cabin. We hunt north of Merrifield on public ground.

I own 150 acres about 40 miles N W of Duluth. I have a 16 X 32 hunting cabin ( no water or elect.). There is also a sauna. Usually there are 7 of us on opening weekend and after that it is just me with an occasional hunter or 2 for the remainder of the season. There is state and county land west of me for about 20 miles with no roads so there is plenty of room to hunt.

I feel really fortunate to have the perfect setting for hunting.

When I first started hunting it was with a group of about 12 of my dad's friends. We hunted Potlach land north of Motley, MN staying at a lake cabin about 20 minutes away. We then moved up to a small cabin on Leech Lake and hunted south of there a short ways. The group has grown to close to 20 members, and while it was fun, I got a little sick of the "brown its down" mentality that was so prevalent, and the woods that were crawling with hunters around there.

Last year I started hunting an area way up in NE Minnesota accessible only by canoe. There are no hunters within about a mile of us and we stay in a small tent. This year it will just be myself and my dad the first weekend, and a friend and my uncle will possibly join us the second weekend. Third weekend I'll head back to the Walker area to join the old group for a weekend of more BSing that hunting.

It can be a bit chilly, and last year it was very wet with the rain, but here is my hunting camp.

NoWiser... now that is roughing it!!! I love the idea of the solitude, but I think I am just to used to the comforts of running water and electricity!!!! Nice buck, by the way!!!

We have hunted the same area (Potlatch and State land) for about 15 years. Right now our hunting party is 9 of us, varying in age from 41 to 12. Group used to be bigger, but had a riff and we split off from the guys that didn't want our kids in hunting camp. We all pull campers up and setup in a clearing that we found about 1/4 mile back off the road. We start a nice fire and have a blast sitting around it.

i pull my 16 ft camper to the same spot on public land i hunted since the 60's. this year there will be 4 of us. the area has just been logged 2 years ago and they left our stands alone. love it up there. fire at night, listen to the wolves at night, northern lights at times and the brightest stars in the world on clear nights. love just sitting in the woods, and the deer are a bonus if i get one. good luck.

ive hunted a few areas over the years, but the last several weve been hunting basically in my parents back yard, in the house i grew up in, north of nashwauk. we split from our old party up by bigfork. spent the first 5 years huntin out of our cabin, kinda nice to have running water and electricity!

Our deer camp is located 2 miles sout of Skime. We are located in the core TB zone. When I started to hunt there in 1992 the group was 12 guys. We used to rent cabins to stay at until 2003 when we built a cabin on the 160 acres that my best friend's Stepdad owns. The cabin is baically a 30x50 garage with 20' sectioned off for the cabin. The cabin has electricity and running water. We do all are deer processing there now before we go home. Our group has dwindled down to 4 guys now, 1 has become to old and some have looked to different areas since the sharp shooters have been shooting all the deer. Last year we only shot 1 deer. Hoping this year is different. Still look forward to deer camp regardless. I hunt there for the first week until the rest of the group heads south, then I hunt up by home the last 2 weekends. Usually take the whole first week off of work for hunting. Can't wait, it is getting closer.

I own 40 acres in wadena county, north of Staples. It is just me and one buddy, both of us in our 50's. One tradition I like to keep is to bring and carry an item that was owned by my Father, to whom I owe my passion for hunting, fishing, and the outdoors in general. I carry the knife that he used to dress his last deer. I have this 15 foot square shack; the outhouse I built is a lot nicer than my shack! CH

We have 80 acres about an hour north of Grand Rapids but most of our hunting is done on public land. Our hunting numbers can vary greatly depending on who can make it and if anyone brings any guests so anywhere from 8 to 18 hunters can show up, age ranges 8 to 79 and just about everything in between. We have an old shack that is the main kitchen and dining area, sleeps 11. Also a new shack that sleeps 10. Top it off with a sauna (take one every night all deer season) and a garage for the wheelers and to hang deer, that is my little piece of heaven.

After losing my father earlier this fall, our camp is down to 5 guys(sometimes a friend is brought but not always). Myself and two brothers, and two nephews. Ages range from 20-50. We hunt out of a small seasonal cabin(no running water in November) and a "bunkhouse", both heated with antique wood stoves. We own the 5 acres that our cabin is located on, and hunt stands on an 80 acre private parcel owned by neighbors, and a large chunk of county forest. Located in Itasca County. Deer camp has always been my favorite time of year...can't wait. I'll throw some pics up if I can find them.
