Hmmmm, depends on the user I guess. I had a great day last Sunday on LOTW and did'nt even post.....It was kind of unbelievable after the weekend befores dismal results which I did post. As for myself I share a bit on the LOTW forum as to locations, tactics and what not, even to the point of being accosted on this site for doing so!!! I have also caught grief from locals for sharing info on FM.com while in local taverns at times too!

If you ever make it up my way go ahead and post some questions, if I don't get to it one of the other mods usually will, though none of us can be on the site 24/7.

I do know what you mean about the one-up bit, bragging, contradicting and what not, I call it the "Know it all mentality". I get this quite a bit from a couple folks, so don't feel bad as you're not alone, and I've been a user of this site for quite awhile.

It's kinda human nature to be the "best", some folks have a personality that is more influenced by this instinct, so take any info with a grain of salt and don't believe everything you read! Here or anywhere.

MrSenarighi you've posted quite a few questions, some of them a duplicate to very resent posts by other FM users. Many times the answer to your questions have been answered over and over in another thread. From what I've seen you've had some great help. Your right there are users that ask for imfo without a thank you. More important is many times the person like yourself asks for advise on a lake then never gives a report. Its a two-way street.
When you have a question do a qwik search first, if you cant find what you want ask away. FM members are what makes this site the best in the nation.

Sometimes there is just no answer to the questions. You can also "bump" it back up to the top for a second or third trip through the batting order if it's posted on a busy forum like the Metro or Equipment boards.

If you really feel you're being left out in the cold - tag the e-mail address of one of the board moderators (found at the top of each forum list page) and ask directly.

It's in all our best interests to help one another out whenever possible.

Personally, I don't reply if I don't have sound info or a darn good hunch.

MrSenarighi. I did a search for all your posts (23 of them) and you got some very, very detailed info from users. Gosh, you asked some very specific questions and received some very specific info in returns. Some of the info was so specific I couldn't believe my eyes. You even asked for GPS coordinates and paths on Lake Superior, but that's about the only information that wasn't posted for you.

ST is right. You can find a whole bunch of info in the archives. Just click on "search" and scan through some other posts in the past. If that doesn't help you, post a question. Someone is always willing to help.

I find your observation to be very diferent from my experiences on the boards. Earlier this year(june) I was taking my family to a cabin near Bovey MN (grand Rapids area) and never having participated on the GR forum I posted several questions and found that several people gave me quality advice and even one FMer (Lunker)knew the small lake personally and gave me very specific advice on that exact lake. I fish Several lakes and try to give as much information as possible back to others, another approach I have tried is offering to give some info on my lakes in return. I get quite a bit of info and ideas from the boardsbut they are just a place to start, in the end the fish dictate what to do.
PS If you get quality info, it also helps to acknowledge it on the board via a THANK YOU. We are in the E-World here but courtesy is courtesy.

I think that people can also get a better response by doing a better job of filling in the Topic line. Put right in the topic what you're asking or looking for. When people are surfing thru all many many active threads, its the interesting topics that pull you in. Your 'Just Wondering' is a prime example, it tells me nothing. It will pull in the curious, but thats it.

Another thing to consider is that all of us have our "honey holes". Its tough to ask a person to give up that valuable info. On a larger body of water most people are willing to get you in the right direction or location. If you want someone to take you out there, catch fish, clean them, and cook them up for you, you will have to pay a guide.

You people have to realize that for every poster out there, that there are dozens who just read to get the info and then take advantage of said "secret honey holes". That's one of the reasons why I only post vague descriptions such as "an inner city lake using plastics".

Sure it's great helping out newcomers to the sport, but don't hand the info to them on a silver platter, make them work a little and learn stuff through their own experiences. Or arrange getting together and showing them first hand how and what you use to catch fish.

I've met and fished with a lot of great people after meeting them online, even from far away places such as NY, PA, and MI. FisherDave and I met up on Calhoun last winter, and after talking about where we would meet on FM, we had company, we figured the guy next to us was a cyber squatter. Not that that was bad, but I don't think that gentleman would have been where he was without the posts Dave and I made.

If I can I put in my .02 which by the # of posts I have, I put in a lot. I think I give more than I take. (that's up for debate ) But yes there are certain places and sometimes tactics that I'm not willing to "give" out. I used to read and read and wasn't a member. But I've learned more and met great friends since I've become a member.

Just wondering why it seems that everyone is so eager to share their biggest catch, huge catches of fish, and trophies, but sometimes (maybe indirectly)won't give someone the time of day about a question. I just think that there are more people out there that know a lot more than they care to divulge, but won't hesitate to post if they can one-up someone or brag a little. I guess I would like to see a little more response to specific posts. Not trying to start an argument, just a little frustrated.

I'm proud of my accomplishments in regards to fishing or hunting. Alot of work, research, time, money, and maybe a little natural ability is the price you pay to succeed in the outdoors. To show or talk about succesful trips aren't done only from a selfish standpoint, pride plays in as well. Most people would listen to some of my posts and say, "This guy's full of ****", "No way". A picture or two can give credibility, as well as that pride thing I talked about earlier. Take a peek. .... I always kiss and tell.....When it comes to fishing that is. I'll tell you exactly where I caught them, even if you dont want to know! I tell people where I fish all the time. Do they catch them? Not always. I can't help that. Heck, that makes me frustrated! Some people just dont have the "feel" or ability to pattern fish. I've watched many people go fish-less in many states and Canada, while I had a trip of a life time! I just want to say that this forum is one of the best things I have been fortunate to be a part of. It has been a huge help for me, and I have learned a ton. I was contemplating whether or not to even submit my "Just Wondering" post, and partially regret it. There are so many good people in this forum I should of just kept my mouth shut. I apologize if I disturbed anyone.

I have had it brought to my attention several times that I tend to give out entirely too much infomation on occasions when I make post. The most recent was when a *local*, or previous local to my area got upset when i posted the crappies were biting, when, where, and on what.

Some specific information is hard to get on the forum. The most popular lakes of an area are obviously going to get the most attention. Some locations have had the same Q's posted over and over again ..

In the end, if a person ask the right questions and stays active with different topics surrounding their personal interest.. This site is very capable of giving more specific information to an individual than many could take in possibly a lifetime of fishing.. or help in just about any way possible witht he exception of putting a fish on the end of your line .. thats up to you.

Sometimes I dont give out any info b/c im afraid that people would take advantage of what I researched and found out. And other times i dont really care b/c I got the tip from one of my buddies or somebody else and im not the only one that knows it.
Some people that put a lot of time in researching and going out and trying new things and seeing what works best on that particular lake, wont share every lil piece of information b/c thats their choice.
But you got to realize there are millions of people that visit this site every year and thousands every month that read the information we put out. I wonder how many people looked at this post already insearch of fishing information .
But like the song goes "you cant always get what you want..." comes true all the time.

There are going to be varieties of individuals in all walks of life and an array of idiosyncrasies and beliefs/ideas - just like any other community. You can't please everyone all the time. We all have one thing in common though - we all fish. Some more than others and some folks have miles and years of knowledge & experience while others do not. Some folks get off on teaching others and some don't. It's a community and we gotta take the lows with the highs.
Keep posting the questions and keep expecting answers - but remember to kick down a little knowledge of your own sometimes, too, even if it seems trivial to you - there's a rookie somewhere rookier than you think you are.

It's a trade off- and its a good thing. If you have a sucess story or help you could give to someone else one day, you could benefit by the information given by another. It's a GREAT resource, and more than just a resource, it's also an opportunity to meet great new people. I must have met a half a dozen people just out of the blue when I was fishing, that use these fourms. (not to mention the meets) It makes the time go faster when there is someone on the same grounds fishing next to you. Altough I've been busy latley, the various "gatherings" that are posted here are a blast! I rember going to several of the "ice" events last year, and altough I froze my butt off on Phalen (as the few roughnecks that were there rember that day... ); I still had a good time.

Perhaps in a way I think this board does a lot more for people than just to let others "steal" your spots. ALL of the FM'ers I have met are for the most part very polite, passionate, and friendly fisherfolk, the best around.
