mixxedbagg
I love tenting out in the cool weather. Honestly, the colder the better until snow sticks. I could camp every single night of every single October and still love it. No fancy gear, just wool socks and a hooded sweatshirt in the sleeping bag. Stars, boiled cowboy coffee, cigars by the fire, reading by headlamp, rekindling a fire to warm up before fishing. Yeah!
Redlantern
You guys really need to give winter camping a try. No mosquitos, no need for a cooler and no crowds. Get the right gear for it and you'll wonder why you haven't been doing this before.

Count me among the warm comfortable folks sitting around the fireplace at home

Ceiling fan whirling, watching movies/playing video games. Oh yeah, might drop a line also!!!

Redlantern
Not that much of an investment if you already icefish. A good sleeping bag and a bivy sack.
upnorth
I would assume you need a vented heater tho.
echotrail
I can't wait for my camping trip near the BWCA next week. I will be putting the gear together today and checking inventory. Using a Buddy heater, if neccessary, in the tent for about 15 minutes before retiring take thes chill off and again for about 15 minutes after waking up in the morning. I'd like to see some low 30's temps at night and a sunny warm up in the morning for the grouse.
upnorth
We are heading to the North Shore the end of the month to do some hiking and checking out the fall colors.
Redlantern
I don't see why you would need a heater. Some folks do use them but to me, it's just too heavy to drag along on my camping trips. That's where the good sleeping bag and bivy sack come in. Most people who ice fish or work outside in the winter already have decent clothing. Another thing to keep you more comfortable is up your intake of high fat foods and make sure you stay hydrated.

tonkapat
Hey redlantern any condensation issues with the bivvy in the winter. My friends have tried and stayed warm but got wet in the process. Couldn't agree with you more about winter camping. Best time of the year to do it. Redlantern
Never had a problem with it. It fits fairly snug over my sleeping bag. I'll have to check out what brand and what material it is. I got it from my dad when he got out of mountain climbing. He used some pretty good gear but most of it's somewhat dated.
