my tracks and my fishing advisor are cool.

I am two weeks into owning a smart phone, with the weather today, I thought it was funny (I know 2 different apps) but fishing advisor told me at 7pm was "excellent" for the walleye bite, meanwhile my phone is alarming, (simple weather app) for severe storm warning, seek shelter! laugh

I keep Simple Weather Alert, its an app that stays synced with the noaa. Sends your phone a message with the info about any severe alerts that have been issued.

I really like you the settings, which can be silenced between certain hours, and alarms unfilled checked.

It's not an app, but the NWS has a service that will send text messages for alerts as well. What's nice about it is that you can select what type of alerts that you want to be sent to your phone as well as the area, which you define by either selecting the county(s) or by drawing a border around the area you want to be notified for. Setting these options is all done on their HSOforum (iNWS) and you have to sign up and create an account. Getting a text message is kinda nice if you're busy and not paying attention to the radio/TV or for those people who don't have a smart phone.

I'm going to take a look at the Simple Weather Alert too. There was a similar feature on an older WeatherBug app that I used to have but they changed the app and I don't care for it anymore.

Thanks for the suggestion on Simple Weather Alert. Last night about 3am my phone went off (playing the tornado siren sound file I set as the notification sound) for a Flood Advisory that goes doesn't go in effect until tonight! Guess I need to "fine tune" the settings a bit. grin

Seriously though, that is similar to how the Weather Bug app worked which I liked before they changed it all around. I like having that wake-up call if a bad storm hits in the middle of the night so I can check to see what is going on instead of waking up as the roof is coming off. Looks like it might get a good test the next few days.

Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion on Simple Weather Alert.

Thanks!

I just downloaded this and it is pretty basic with the location and providing alerts.

You may not be in the twin cities metro area, but the Fox9 weather app is pretty good.

It provides all kinds of alerts from dense fog to flood to severe weather to tornado. The notification can be chosen as light, sound or vibration. You can choose what types of notifications you want such as watches or just the warnings.

You can load multiple cities (Just have one selected as the home location) in there and quickly scroll between them and the radar displays almost instantly for the next city. I have Waskish, Brainerd, Aberdeen, Minneapolis, Sioux falls and it is literally instant to switch between the radars on 3g.

You get a quick glance at the 3 day forecast and one click gets you a 10 day.

There is an add on the top of it, but doesn't interfere with program and no pop ups. I like it as an all in one.

Soundhound. Hear a song on the radio, tap into it and it listens and it tells you who sings it, what album it is on, release date, tour dates, lyrics scroll along with the song and you can even watch it on youtube. Even Slave Raider is in their system!!

Power Controls is a nice widget for toggling different options on your phone and it can be customized for the toggles you want (up to 8 different toggles). Wi-fi, volume, brightness, bluetooth, sound profile, flashlight, etc. You can also put it in your notification menu so the widget bar doesn't take up screen space. Works good.

Quick heads-up to let everyone know that the Google app market (Play) has various apps on sale for 25 cents. Each day they have a different batch of apps on sale. Some good time killers for a cheap price!

NOAA Weather Free

Someone has made National Weather Services' HSOforum into a more condensed version.

For those that are running Jelly Bean on Android that doesn't support flash anymore, this app has a NWS's radar that works as well.

It's free, accurate and my go to app, which says something, since my livelihood depends on the weather daily.
