kyleharty
Don't over look surface lures either like a buzz bait, walk the dog style, or even frogs! I catch numerous pike on a bat wing frog( that is why i use a leader on them now!), including my biggest of 14#. This year my most productive big pike lure has been an 8 or 9 inch walk the dog topwater. I mostly fish shallow cold water pockets and they go nuts over this thing when the sun gets low. Last time I was out, got 4 between 40"-36" in about 45 minutes on the same WTD; plus it's a rush watching them attack these topwaters, even when they miss. Blades have been starting to get action too, with my biggest pike of the year coming on a DCG a couple weeks ago after nothing on blades earlier in the year. Hoffer
I always hear the johnson silver minnow tipped with a plastic. I have tried this numerous times and have never ever even had a follow or even a little slimer show up working this bait I am heading back up to Ontario later on this Fall - and am going to keeo trying!! Maybe I am working it wrong?

Maybe I am working it wrong? I've never had much luck with spoons, but part of that is because they aren't at the top of my go to list and I don't spend alot of time using them. If you haven't tried pausing and letting the spoon flutter down occasionally during the retrieve that can trigger strikes.
reinhard1
back in my younger years up in the duluth area all we used were spoons. then as more and more differnt lures came on the market i started using them. rapalas, big spinners, spinnerbaits and now plastics which i think are very effective. next year i'm going back to spoons {i'll keep the plastics handy} just because i dont think they are used much and maby give the pike something "new" to look at. good luck. merkman
I always hear the johnson silver minnow. +1In Silver or Gold.Great for both Northern and Bass.I have never seen a need to tip it with plastic though.
solbes
5 o' Diamonds in 3/4 oz landed a nice pike for me right off the dock this weekend. Unfortunately I got a little zealous on my next cast and snapped the line. Oh well, add it to my list of tackle to replace.Johnson silver minnow did not work off the dock this time (though it frequently does).
slipperybob
I will go with a spinnerbait, buzzbait, or inline spinner. I prefer inline spinners because they're less likely to be destroyed.
Slabasaurus
Up north it's Spinners for me... on TC lakes it's either the Reddevl or the Ruby Redeye.

Jmarksman
Myself my go to for pike would be early in the year I go with smaller Bucktail jigs with plastics. When the water starts to heat up post spawn I like to run 8 or 10 inch plastic eel's and fish them slow and after they put the feed bag on again I go for #3. a red and white creek chub and smaller bucktails. WasteManagement
I like the Johnson Silver minnow myself. It is just about the only lure i used to use. My lake is in Norther MN. Under 200 acres and is very murky. Since i have fished the metro more i do not go to the silver minow as often. If i have to choose one it would be the minnow. But its no longer my first choice on many lakes.

kingfish689
I throw a 10" suick over weed flats or even right up in the lillies and big bass and pike just seem to have to hit them when they go by . by far my favorite is a large suick
Grunt L
In general rubber swimbaits. My buddy got a 49.5" on a regular SuperD and right after that I got a 46" on a Mag SuperD a few years ago in Canada. Granted, I think we would have caught the same fish if we were using a Bulldawg, Suzy Sucker, etc. but since I have about 30,000 SuperDs we were using those Swimbaits, many to choose from. Other lures we have done very well with are Suicks and Johnson Silver Minnows tipped with yellow pork rinds. James

BobT
My goto lure for pike when trolling is a red and white spoon with copper back. I have caught more northerns on that lure than any other while trolling. Another good one is a white spinnerbait with colorado blade. I can't begin to count the number of pike I've caught while using that lure for bass.
