Catfishing vs The World Cup

Today I decided to do a test.

I set up a lawn chair in the back yard and went and got my flathead rod.

It was raining.

I watched 15 minutes of the World Cup and then I went outside and sat

in my chair, without a raincoat, in the rain.

No contest. I would rather sit in my boat, on the river, in the dark,

without a bite for 30 nights rather than sit through an epic of a soccer

game.

The World Cup makes bowling look like the X Games !

Espn prime time does a recap type thing where they only show the good parts. Boils the game to about 10-15 mins. Kind of a standard thing with soccer matches. I enjoy the stuff when its condensed.

The fake injuries are funny. Like when a player gets his foot stepped on or gets elbowed.

Invariably, the guy will lay down on the grass and roll around and grimace like he just got shot.

I guess you have to do something to build some drama. laugh

Believe it or not, as an ex football player turned soccer player (due to football related injuries) ... I will be the first to admit that soccer is not a girly man's sport. We worked ten times harder in high school soccer than we did in football, including weight training. Running for forty five minutes at a time is not an easy task, and it is by no means light contact. While playing college soccer, I put a few kids on the ambulance, although I put a few in the hospital for more than an overnight stay while in football ... I have respect for both sports, but I must admit that soccer is a bit more demanding on your body!

That being said, I would much rather fish than watch the world cup, it's one thing to play it, totally different to watch it!

Once more, that being said, I'm headed to Mexico for the next week, and I'm sure there will be lots of soccer on the tv's, and not much else ... Looks like I'll just have to go deep sea fishing to tide me over wink

Watching soccer can be intresting if if you are into it. I am just not into it right now.

Now if you wanna pass da time when not flathead fishing, give this a try:

The World Cup is awesome!! If you've ever spent time in other parts of the world, you might have a little better understanding of the World Cup.

I don't think the Cup was going on at the time but I was traveling all over Europe in college for 3 months and the soccer related stuff was just crazy.

I remember walking through some train stations and if there was a TV that had soccer on it, the crowd that was surrounding it was just incredible. We spent several nights watching soccer games in pubs and it really was cool!

At face value, soccer seams like a slow game with a bunch of guys kicking the ball around but the small details really make it incredible.

Its pretty cool that there is 1 sport that brings the entire world together!

What kinda rush do you get when you are creeping around the rough taking pics of people laugh

I would have too believe it would be the angry rich ladies chasing you around with a cart and club for taking there pictures

Actually that was after the round while having a couple out on the clubhouse patio. Never saw a girl over the age (I assume) 35. Most of the help is in their late teens to early 20's.... That's fine Here-Kitty-Kitty. grin More for me, less for you. winklaugh

Yes Larry, been golfing since I was about 7-8 years old. Was in it pretty hardcore in my teens & later teens, but life happened and now I get out when I can. I also have some tournaments coming up involving a friend of mine & my work. Just getting out to get my mojo back. Just like flathead fishing, golf takes skill, dedication, & brains. wink Butt!!! You start taking it too serious, you will find yourself having issues hitting the ball past the womens tee box. wink Good video by the way. grin

Another sport of my youth was soccer. Hanson is right, soccer can be interesting, but as with any sport, can be very dull if you are not siked to get into it.

I tried to listen to others and like I said, I honestly gave it a try watching it.

Man, I can watch bowling, curling, heck even golf, but that game of soccer is just brutal to watch. Playing it might be a different animal, but man what a dull boring spectator sport. Even worse than watching fishing. laugh

Zzzzzzzzzz

Maybe it gets awesome after a few pints of draught. I sometimes wonder if all the drinking and partying is because the sport is so good, or because it is so bad wink

I also grew up playing the game. I stopped after a few years in college but recently joined a league again. Nice to get back into it. As for comparing Soccer to Catfishing, it's two completely different beasts. Games are during the day so it leaves evenings open for Catfishing. Not a big deal.

I put soccer in the same category as golf, tennis, bowling, basketball and basket weaving: Fun to do yourself, but mindnumbingly boring to watch other people play.

I sold my golf clubs, bag and all three years ago. The only thing I kept was the little towel - for wiping off fish slime and sucker guts.

Golf is a fun game, I'm not a hater or anything but to me it's waste of a perfect opportunity to go fishing.
