Floro On Spinning Gear?

Until now I've been split between Mono and Braid, but I'd like to try floro in situations with swim jigs and some other things. I've heard it's quite a bit stiffer than mono, and most guys use the heavy stuff on bait casters. I'd like to use something in the 15-20# range on spinning reels. Would this be OK? Or is there a theoretical weight limit to safely use it on spinning gear without spooling problems?

ugh, i fight heavy fluoro on spinning reels. I've been using 30# braid with a 10#-14# fluoro leader, ~5'-6' long. Tie it on with a uni-uni or J-knot. I like it as a good jerk bait, twitch bait, and tube setup.

The only full fluoro spool I have, on a spinning reel, is on my drop shot rig.

2 cents.

I agree with Reid, Your going to have a bear of a time fighting 15lb flouro on a spinning reel. Id recommend a baitcaster if your going to be using that heavy of line. I do however have 8lb flouro on a spinning reel for drop shots, shaky heads, and senkos. But I wouldnt risk going any heavier

Thanks guys. I hadn't considered the braid/floro leader route. That might be the ticket.

Unless, of course, I can convince my wife that I absolutely have to spend $250 on a new baitcaster setup so I can justify a $20 spool of line. It's a good strategy, just difficult to pull-off smile

Give the braid/floro leader a try. I've switched all my spinning reels to this. You don't have to deal with all of the line coils/twists that you get with floro and the sensitivity of braid is awesome. I even use it on my drop shot rod and love it. Just make sure you learn to tie a good double uni knot, I haven't had one fail on me yet.

I tried flouro 10LB on spinning reel lasted about 15 minutes. 8lb is tolerable but still stiff and coily. I now also use braid only with flouro leaders with uni knots. Works great best of both worlds.

Here is my two cents and 5+ years experience using flouro on spinning reels.

I have had no real sucess with anything heavier than 10LB flouro, but with 10 lb or less it is very managable if you follow the following guidelines that have worked for me.

You need a size 4000 spool, anything less than that does cause the memory to be a problem, a 2500 spool is asking for trouble. Use a good line conditioner about every 15 minutes and make sure there are no loose loops on the spool before you cast. The braid/leader concept if good but the flouro will give you better depth/sink if going weighless. Also, you only have one knot to worry about with flouro only as opposed to 3 knots (one at the hook adn basically two if you do the double uni) to worry about. I have had a fair amount of sucess following the above mention guidelines. I am thinking if you are just using a swimbait through the grass 10 lb should work for most bass in MN/Wi.

Fluro is fantastic on spinning gear. If by "fantastic" you mean having it come off your spool all at once. I don't know, I use Trilene XL on all my reels and don't have a problem. Then again, I don't do a whole lot of finesse/worms or other areas that would probably benefit from braid. All I know is I had 8lb fluro on a spinning reel and that lasted about 10 minutes. It stinks on ice.

I have had mixed sucess with heavier floro lines after you use the line for a bit without getting any bad coils then it fishes great its making it last to that conditioned point that is hard.

I have had good luck with 10lb pline floro on my spinning setups but like others said it just gets annoying with anything heavier...
