MN OPENER RESIDENT ONLY?

Recommended Posts

I heard a rumor that they were talking about making the first week of inland fishing open to residents only. What would you guys think of that? I think it would kind of be nice in ways, but then the small towns do lose out on money. I guess when you look at it ND does it for for hunting

i would imagine that they would loose a bunch of funding by keeping non residents out on the first weekend. I dont know how many folks fish on the opener from other states but would imagine that there are quite a few folks that come in for the opener. i think that most dnr are revenue driven.

Do we really care who catches the fish? Non-residents already have to pay a lot more to fish here, thereby bringing in more revenue for stocking/enforcement. I don't think it would be a good idea to curtail any tourism or out of state dollars.

I still can't believe the season starts on the 15th of May! Holy cow, so much for the jig bite! You might as well start the season off speed trolling cranks!

When the Mother's Day battle ended, I assumed they open it up a week earlier rather than later.

What mothers day battle? Opener has been two weeks before memorial day weekend for years. This year it just happens that memorial day (the last monday of May) falls on the 31st, thus making fishing opener the 15th. Next year opener will be the 14th, which happens to be mothers day weekend (the second sunday of May).

Only Ban ND residents the first week of the season. Ban them on Memorial, 4th of July and Labor Day weekends too. Fair is Fair. I know I'll get the "ND fishing is better than MN anyways" response and that's fine. Go fish ND then. I prefer to fish lakes with trees around them.

lol more NDakotan's on the lake I fish than residents, drive hwy 108 and you'll c the flood tonight lol. Let the NR's fish, it's a zoo regardless and most opening weekends the weather is brutal so punish the resi's and not the NR's not fair lol.

haha ND fishing better than MN, i live out here and walleyes on the river is what they have, it would have to be compared to the Miss. river; although they do think that, you can just tell them to compare MN and ND state records

i would be in for a increase in NR licenses but dont know about a week delay

Actually Mother's Day will be the 8th next year. So assuming the opener is the 14th we won't have them conflict next year either.
