Got a new bait caster rod (7 foot med action) and I am looking for a good baitcaster that will easily throw some lighter lures. Some of the smaller baitcasters I have had in the past needed a lot of weight behind a cast. Thanks for any help. For Muskies I like the Calcuttas, how are the small sizes of those. Want to run a twelve pound test or so.

smeese- as craigums said, just about any low profile will work. I would spend at least $100 other wise your really not getting a great baitcaster. The Citica is tough to beat for the money... As for the Calcutta.. they are a great reel, I a have a couple i use for throwing spinnerbaits.

I would agree with what the first two said and make the extra investment you will be happy in the end. The higher end ones cast alot better with the extra bearings and braking systems they have which will help with casting those smaller baits.

From there decide on the gear ratio you want for cranks get a lower ratio or go higher if you will be in more cover situations were you need to take up line fast.

For $120 the revo s is a very nice reel that I have been very happy with

If you really want to spoil yourself get a zillion. I just tried my new one out for the first time a week ago and the casting is incredible. If you don't want to spend that much get a revo.

You can find Citicas or Trions used on some websites for under $75 (I have bought 3 citicas e's in the last couple weeks and have less than $200 into them) and upgrade them with Boca abec 5 or 7 bearings for $30 a reel, and they will throw light baits very nicely. I was throwing a small hidden weight spinenrbait (1/4 oz) for white bass a couple weeks ago and could toss that thing farther than I would've ever thought possible with the Citica!

It depends how light weight you are talking about. Like others said, a lot of low profiles with be great for throwing 1/4 ounce and up. If you are going lighter than that then its time to spend a little more and get something made for lighter baits.
