Humminbird 900 Series - RAM Mount

I thought this would be easy to figure out but I've seen conflicting web pages.

Does anyone have a RAM mount that they use on their sonar unit that works well? I am looking to mount a 998c SI and I believe I should be buying the RAM 111U.

They recommend the RAM D (2.25" ball) for the 900 series. You can get by with a regular RAM (1.5" ball) but it will probably move around on you. If it was my unit I'd put it on a RAM D with a short (3.5") arm.

Do not use the 1.5" ball. Get the 2.25 or 2 1/2" ball with the short arm. Believe me its the only way to go.

+1 Mounted my bird couple weeks ago. Went with the 2 inch + Ram and am very happy with that decision. Can lock it down tight, no movement at WOT. To big an investment to scrimp a few bucks on the mounting system. Love the SI, 1st time out spent about 2 hours at idle, seemed like 20 minutes.

Go big. Rough water has a way of flattening out a big unit on a ram mount. It is tough enough to steer through big waves without having to crank your ram mount tight every time you hit a big wave.

Gander will not carry those. You will have to go to Capras or Thorne for one.

I stopped into the Gander Mountain here in Kato. They do carry a selection of RAM products and at great prices. I bought the 111 2" with the short arm.
