First dumb move of the year

So at risk of showing my lack of intelligence to the world I figured I'd share my Sunday afternoon with you. Picture yourself pointing out to a friend one of the many lures hanging in the garage. Now imagine 5 little girls running through and screaming - you turn to see what's up and a 7/0 ends up in your elbow. Too bad it was a freshly made bait so I hadn't pinched the barb yet. Fortunately it was daylight and and able bodied buddy was able to clip it with the Knipex and we worked it out.

A couple things are more clear now than ever before:

1 - I won't even make a cast off a dock without my Knipex close by.

2- Pushing the point of the hook through my skin was much tougher than you think -- all my hookse will be sharpened... Again.

3- Even with a vise grip, pulling the tip through was made way more difficult by the barb. My arm isn't built like a fish's mouth but I would sure think the barb would have a similar effect on a hookset.

Box you're gunning for a fishing injury exclusion on your health insurance, not even the worst injury for you by a long shot though, lest we forget.

I had to push one through my dog's hide on his leg last year to cut it off, it really is a lot harder than you'd think, even with sharp hooks.

Box - I had a close call like that just hanging the new baits in the basement from the show. I put the creeper next to the hawg wobbler, I dropped my hand and the hook from the hawg wobbler grazed my finger and sliced it. No puncture like yours but you're reminded pretty quickly how sharp we keep those! Maybe you'll be good for the rest of the season.

I had the displeasure of pushing a 3/0, sharp but with barb, through my index finger 2 years ago. Even with a sharp hook it took a pliers to get it through and the use of my thumb to hold the skin down as the barb was coming through. I was alone, guess the dog was there, and soon after thought I was gonna faint or barf or both.

Box - That looks like it may have hurt a bit. Next time you do that, could you be sure to take a better photo. That thing is all out of focus. Man up and stop shaking the camera - it was ONLY a 7/0 hook!

I put a 5/0 in the back of my left calf last summer whilst cleaning up the garage. Even though the barb WAS crimped down, it still wouldn't back out.

We used the tried and true "Pop out method" which I've used many times on others with great success.

This was the 2nd time I've had a hook "popped out" on myself using this method.

It doesn't look like it would work, but it does.

Not to high jack here, but, listen to this barb story, years ago a bunch of friends up north for the weekend at a friends cabin. Two of the guys decide to go in the boat spearing suckers, so they lay the spear accross the seat of the boat, as they pull away another friend decides to toss them a frisbee to the guys in the boat, well he lunges to catch the frisbee and wham double barb spear stuck in his leg, past the barbs. Into the ambulance with a 5 foot spear attached. Saucing and pointy objects don't mix. Sorry to hear about your hook thru the elbow, don't need that either.

At risk of terrible public humiliation I had to share these with you. I may have walked into a hanging bait when sweeping up the garage floor. The neighbor told me he wouldn't cut the hook unless I let him take these pics!! I hope this doesn't scare my normal fishin partners away.

Can we get a sticky and keep score this year? You're somethin' else, Box.

Number of 7/0s cut out of HugoBox this year: 2

Number of casts made in search of the almighty musky: 0

How about some a Musky Armor body suit? Haz Mat outfit? Chain Mail? Protective bubble?

I still feel safe in the boat with you, but I'm going to learn CPR before we fish together this year, for your sake!
