Any Flatheads yet?

urban fly guy, im not asking you to give up a spot by any means but can i ask what depth that flat came in at?

It was a lucky catch... no disrespect urban, a tip of the hat is due if you pulled the fish out above pool 3... with the river levels over flood stage the depth has no bearing... it really never does even in normal levels.

actually it was not a blind luck of a catch, i know exactly where i was fishing and know from past experience that they frequent the exact spot i and yes it was above pool 3 but as far as depth goes that im not sure of but i do know it was over 8 feet and right off the edge of a deeper hole that has held many many fish for me. I would say though that the mass of them is not moving yet though, as of this writing the river temp is back down to 50 and the day i got the flat it was just under 55. Im guessing once it hits that 58 degree mark they will stir more

Well no fish caught, but good signs. We had 1 bite on crawlers, and 4 bites on bullheads, swung and missed on the 2 I had, my son Travis lost one on the way to the boat, he seemed to think above 10 pounds, and my wife had the bite on the crawler and missed it. Main channel during the day was 54.5, backwaters were 52.5. The water is mostly back in the banks, and the water is starting to mellow out a bit. No where near ideal conditions, but for early April, and 60, I will take it! The biggest obstacle was getting the boat landed, once we thought outside of the box, it was no problem. I will be back out again this weekend.

Being an avid river guy require a certain combination of bravery, stupidity, and creativity all the time.

I can't remember the last time I was in the box.

The VAST majority of us I would say are all big on catch and release of Flathead Catfish. However, I know of people who have eaten them but only smaller ones (3-10 lbs). I could never harvest a big Flathead...just couldn't do it.

Channel Cats however many people keep. These are also "eater size".
