I believe it's called New Melones Resevoir/Lake, east of Stockton, just at the foothills of the Sierras, down from Angel Camp and Murphys. Fished it a couple times when I lived in Stockton. Never came across any like that though, nice fish.

actually it was caught on a jig.. the story I heard was he cast out a jig, and then tied up another rod.. when he picked up his casted rod, this was on the other end.
