What to expect at the expo?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone -

I am heading to the expo for the first time thie year. Curious as to what we can expect. Are there deals & sales to be had or should I expect retail+ prices on equipment?

I have heard people talk about the lure swap before - can anyone elaborate on any details?

Thanks -

Some deals yes, lots of show special colors you can't get anywhere else. The swap is after the Expo at the nearby watering hole, I'm sure someone will tell it's name ( I'm having an old timers moment) It's always a good time and great way to put names with faces.

Lots of great stuff at the Expo. Like Esox said, there's always a bunch of custom stuff you won't be able to find anywhere else. Be sure to take advantage of any opportunites to support the fisheries while you're there as well.

Fun show to see all the gear for sure and take in a seminar and pass off a couple hours.

If you have a list of "must have's" it's a good place to cross things off the list at a good and competitive price. Also a good place to ask a few people if your "must have" list is relevant or not! Fancy signs and lights sell....they don't necessarily catch fish.

I've scored some really good deals on stuff (non-traditional muskie stuff too), so walk around once before you just open up the wallet.

Great point by AWH, look for what you can do to promote and support the overall progress of muskie initiatives in MN, not just the good of your personal arsenal.

Hey Yo,

One of my favorite things is just hanging out and talking to all the other Muskie guys.

I'll be sitting in my booth all weekend so stop by and say hello, even if you aren't buying anything. smile

See you all there!

Bring some cash too. There have been a few times where i could tell the Vendor really wanted cash. Otherwise they have to write your info down and call in later to run the sale. obviously this is just a couple of the smaller booths that didnt have a CC machine there.

Expect a small parking lot that is already full, so you will be parking on the street. A friend had some equipment stolen out of his truck bed last year. So be smart on what you have.

Other than that, same as it always is.

I tend to think of the Movie King Pin when they walk into the Bowling Tournament and they say "welcome to my kingdom, look at all these great athletes" or something along those lines.

I hope the Flashabou guys are there, then we get it cheaper and dont have to drive to Thorne.

hey guys I talk to Paul the show promoter a couple times a week heres some details apart from the usual

BEER!!!!

maybe,,,,Pauls trying to get beer served however Concordia itself cant sell beer so the show would have to,,it would be a wristband thing no single beer sales are allowed by law at Copncordia and it could only be consumed in two areas a hospitality room and the seminar area,,you would not be allowed to walk around the show a St Paul police officer would monitor those areas exits

both shimmano and abu garcia will have reel specialists on hand to show you how to disasemble and clean/oil your reels so bring em with

abu garcia has said they will offer some very good deals promotions that they are still putting together,,last year they had a fantastic deal on revos that just about everybody I know bought

Georges tackle shop will be back again for kids to make their own bucktails and yes some double ten blades and tinsel for has long has it lasts also jigs and regular bucktails

theres a new parking area that has been added since last year

and Im one of the guys who helps with the swap meet on saturday night at O'Garas,,actually that will be the hang out everynight after the show from thurs setup to sunday closedown so if you have a three day pass think about having dinner and hanging out after the show each day,,,theres also going to be a 70's/80's cover band with preety good reviews at O'Garas the night of the swap,,12th year for the swap always fun

Hiya -

While you're in the neighborhood, I and a couple other muskie heads are having a garage sale. See the classifieds for details. Stop by and say hello, if nothing else smile

Rob PM me directions to the garage sale, I'll be coming in on 35/94. Been to long since I lived up there to remember how to navigate the metro.

I am thinking skip the Expo, I am going to the garage sale!!

By the way, the hot chicks/GF's at the expo only last one year. At first they think our Muskie addiction is cute because its winter. Then the lakes open up and they see what comes first, Girlfriend vs Muskie fishing. They are all single or dating non muskie fisherman, but there might be another crop of them a the expo.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
