Randyjr.
Report: Eagles Interested in Vikings’ Ray Edwards By Chuck Carroll Football News Now Staff Writer March 12, 2010 Despite having a first-round tender on him, the Eagles are expected to “make a push” to get Edwards according Bob Grotz of the Delaware County Times. http://www.footballnewsnow.com/2010/report-eagles-interested-in-vikings-ray-edwards/Edward's agent stated the following:Doug Hendrickson, Edwards' agent: "I'm surprised that they tendered him at a first-round pick versus the one and a three. Elite pass rushers are extremely hard to find, and their value as impact players is enormous, which is reflected in the defensive end franchise tag of $12.4 million. Ray is one of the top defensive ends in the league and at 25 he's only going to get better. In my opinion, he will be a hot commodity for several teams looking to upgrade their defense." http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/87417457.html?elr=KArksi8cyaiU9PmP:QiUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aUU I'm sure that the market will dictate his value. A few things could happen.1. Somebody makes him an offer. Vikes match and he's here long term.2. Somebody makes him an offer and the Vikes don't want to match it, we let him go and receive a first rounder, if it is the Eagles it may be the #24 pick.3. Nobody makes an offer; comes back for the 2.3 mil and the same thing happens next year minus the draft pick compensation. 4. Others?Edwards came on strong at the end of the year, had 8 1/2 sacks for the year, plays with a lot of confidence, and athletic arrogance. I don't think that Robison is a full time guy and that late in the draft we may not get a starter that could take the place of Edwards. I think it would be a tough loss for the Vikings. Scott K
I am pretty sure the Vikes have no intention of letting Edwards go anywhere. There just isnt anyone out there of his caliber to replace him. I think they are just testing the market to see what he is worth.

They push hard for there defence to make it the best in the biz
Jim Uran
Being able to match the offer is a big help here. IMO we can't afford to lose him.
zepman
I'd take a first rounder for him anyday. With the talent surrounding him, he should have multiple games like the Cowboys game...just never happens.

With the talent surrounding him, he should have multiple games like the Cowboys game...just never happens. Chances are good if it was a top of the 1st rounder we might end up paying more for the unproven player than the current proven player we have. Which to me makes little sense. The guy is still young- only 25- and is a main cog in our D. I hope they get a long term deal done here before he is able to go sign with another team and then force the Vikes to match. I personally think that 1st round draft picks pan out so infrequently- especially later on in the round- that we should trade for proven players each year or so. I mean, it looks like the Jared Allen trade has worked out in our favor. Make trades for proven guys--especially since we are in a "win now" mode. Scott K
I wouldnt let him go, who would we replace him with? We havent had any luck drafting DE in the last 15 years.
Born2Fish
Well we do have Robison...But it is yet to be seen if he could be a every down guy or not. He is a very high energy player, but I think there is a reason he only comes in every few plays a game. Beyond that not much. I also think we need to keep Edwards. I mean the guy did say he was going to break the single season sack record once we got Jared Allen (though he ended up with only 2 that year!). But his sack totals keep increasing year after year. solbes
I think Edwards is good and we have a long history of drafting 1st/2nd round DE's that end up BUST. On the other hand, Edwards sometimes looks good because of the other 3 guys on the line. Kinda hard to say how good he really is. I wouldn't pay him a huge contract in a bidding war if it came to that, but I would make a pretty strong effort to keep him.
FISHINGURU
I would much rather have a 1st round pick then OVER RATED Edwards.Yeah I know he holds the current all time sack record for a single season LMMFAO and gets single coverage every single play but he's replacable. You can take alot of DE's out there and put them on our line with Jared and the Williams wall and they will do better then Edwards has done. He's had 1 good game since he's been here, what you seen is what it should be like alot of the season with single coverage and no focal point from offensive coords. koonie
LMAO at Edwards agent talking about elite pass rushers. He is good but not worth a big time contract.
bassNspear
i think the guy is a stud, and i think that if he ssticks with Allen and the wall, i think he can be one of the best out there, and make our d line the best in the game
Team Otter
I would agree that Edwards is a bit over-rated. Solid, yes but premier at his position, no.Push back and go for D-Nabb.

I agree, he is good, definitely not a super star. Would I trade a first round pick to get him? No! Would I take a first round pick for him? Probably not. There just isnt any one available to fill his spot, without a down grade. I also dont think we could get someone as good as he is for a first round pick, that another team would be willing to give us.

harvey lee
For me, It's a no brianer to retain him. We cannot afford to let a player of his caliber go.
FutbolGuru
Ray is good, no doubt. But I wouldn't lose too much sleep over the fact that he wants to go somewhere and get paid. He plays with Jared Allen, Pat Willams, and Kevin Williams. Any decent D end would be capable of putting up numbers like ray edwards has the last couple years (which are no better than average).... The only problem is the Vikes don't have anyone to take his place.
eyehunter
... The only problem is the Vikes don't have anyone to take his place. I think Brian Robison could step in and do just as good a job as Ray Edwards.
