I have a Strike lite with a lazer bottom. My buddy just got a new Solo with the chipper blades, we went out hole hopping the other day. We ran both augers and cut alot of holes. The Strike lite was almost twice as fast. His sure made alot of noise though!

so maybe it's not 4 sec. but after running a jiffy after all these years that's what it seem's, and further more why would my buddy use my auger evry time we drill holes if the nills is faster. To end my note i don't even know why i bother to right in on the ice fishing forum because everything you right in about or ask a question about it gets bashed my 2 cents!!!

LMAO dtro . Yes I too know B.S when I read it . LOL About time for Harvey to step in and feed it further . LOL A four stoke will never be faster in small engines over a two stroke . It's a given .Solo is first year and unproven . Old strikemasters and their blades are a proven platform as are old jiffys . Its heavy Tecumseh . Nils never have changed and still fast and reliable no matter what H says . lol

I'll get shyte for this post eh H

Just got the pro lazer last week and its awesome! Guess what, it starts right up, no smoke and cuts holes FAST and with no effort. Yes I know it's not a race and everyones auger is faster, starts better, lighter, better built, more advanced, ect....

I used my buddies strike lite when they first came out and after a huge oil leak out of the box, trip back to strikemaster and after the plastic auger breaking into pieces the second time we used it....not impressed.

Love strikemaster, but the new solo's are hard to beat!

I was really suprised this year by the speed of the Solo. I have always used a Nils for the past 4 years and now I am running a Solo. Light, very fast, maybe the fastest auger I have ever used. I have not noticed any smoke from the unit either.

Harvey Lee -

You still have the Nils? Do you want to sell it?

I don't own either auger but i love the sound of the strikelite. Sounds like a turbo! I don't like that you have to lay them just right but imo you have to lay them all just right when your done anyway. gas tank up! The new solo really looks like it rips as well. I would want to see the nils and the solo together that would be a good race.I love the fact that the nils has a 1.3 or 1.5 hp motor and the solo is 2.5 or 3 for the lazer and the nils is right there if not faster. someone should post this race. throw in the strikelite as well.

Im found a solo "promo" head unit for sale $250. I'm thinking about getting it. I hate the certain way you have to carry the stike-lite when it's on and the way you have to lay it down when it's off.

wildmanp havent you used frenchies lite this season yet, I like it its light and easy to carry and drills fast enough, I didnt even know that you started this topic

how are you guys starting your solo's on the first pull .i sure can't .i choke it and prime it only once and it takes 5 pulls the quickest sometimes 10.the solo's are fast but i have had a recoil problem and now the shaft to the clutch broke in my gear box.not too impressed.

How about a 3hp solo w/ nils bit? Coming next winter to a lake near you grin

I have always liked the idea of the strikelight. 4 strokes are just so much nicer to deal with. No worry about oil mixture and its quiet and smoke free. If they did a little bit of research they would see that a lot of people really like the motor but dislike the bit. If they ditched the plastic bit for a regular laser it would be a real winner.

It does sound like the new solo is a hot motor so that would probably be the performance choice if you run and gun a lot. Otherwise if you value ease of use and quiet, mostly smokeless operation the strikelight would be sweet. Either way it beats drilling by hand. wink

Yes I still have it but it has issues.

I'm sure it is if the Nils has " issues" grin

Nothing wrong with its cutting performance at all. Its a Nils with no primer and its very hard to start when the temps are colder out.

Once its running, it works just fine.

Its easier to start the Strikemaster than my Nils.

We should get back on the original subject.

What I hate about the strike-lite is the way you have to carry it while the engine is "on" going from hole to hole; about a 45 degree angle. You have to carry the auger with the "this side up" sticker facing upwards. If you don't the crankcase is upside down or on it's side. Kinda of like driving your car with the engine upside down. Imagine what it does with the oil inside the engine. Could this cause engine damage??? Laying the auger down after use is not too much of an issue, but again the "this side up" sticker has to be facing in the up position.

I always lay my old techumseh lazer powerhead down in the same way or the muffler gets full of snow. I suppose if you are used to it you wouldn't even think about it. Everything has its quirks its just if the tradeoff is worth it to you.

Just so you know croix, I didn’t post that video to discount the quality or performance of the Strikemaster you have. I’ve seen them in action and they look very nice and very fast.

I only posted it as a reference to what a 4 second hole looks like. If you follow the timer on the video, it is almost a perfect 4 seconds, and that ice was only like 10”. That is why I questioned your claim of 26”. I wouldn’t call that bashing.

I’m sorry if it came off that way.

Glad you like your new auger!

Something I noticed in those videos that might be worth noting is that they must have the high speed adjustment screw on the carb turned out quite a bit. If you look at the auger it is still spinning at a pretty good clip once the auger is out of the hole and the driller is off the power.

If doing a comparison between units it would be prudent to have both tuned in the exact same manner.

Between the Strike-Lite and SOLO... Go SOLO if you want speed if you want a quite ride go Strike-Lite!

For the Nils boys you can have your auger. That thing has to be the ugliest thing on the ice and not to mention slower than my Pro Lazer smile

I'll support my Minnesota owned company wink

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
