Favre Timeline

Guess the uncertainty of Brett coming back is starting to get to some of the players, just like it did on the Packers and Jets: Good luck with that........

Leber would like Favre's decision as early as possible

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on February 23, 2010 11:15 AM ET

Based on the vibes coming out of Minnesota, the Vikings organization doesn't sound likely to pressure Brett Favre for a quick decision.

One of his teammates, linebacker Ben Leber, would appreciate knowing sooner than later.

"We would love to have the guy back. My gut feeling is that he is going to come back," Leber said on NFL Network Monday. "I think a respectable timetable would be to let us know as early as possible."

Leber said that knowing Favre's plans early could help the team with their draft plans. In measured tones, Leber said what we'd expect most of his teammates to say. He doesn't want to wait all offseason wondering who his quarterback is.

"I think waiting all the way until the end is just going to be detrimental to this team. I think he's going to make decision quick, and I hope he does," Leber said.

Favre's former teammate linebacker Nick Barnett was with Leber on the segment, and said not knowing puts a team at a disadvantage. He was more realistic about Favre's timeline.

"It's better for him to make the decision faster," Barnett said. "But I doubt that he's going to do that."

Happened the past three years? Know your history mrklean. Favre has been pulling this stuff since 2002! Believe it or not, this is now the 9th off-season that Favre has been contemplating retirement, and therefore, keeping his fans in the dark about their football team's future.

Like I said, tell him we need to know by March 5th, or we will find a new starter.

Why...the Vikes need to act as if he's not comming back anyway. They need to find a future q-back for this team sooner rather than later...doesn't matter what the timetable for Favre is on that call. If they like a q-back in the draft, they'll take him if he's comming back or not.

Looks like their just stirring up controversy. We already know Favre is going to take his time. Who is Leber again oh that's right a mediocre linebacker who plays on one of the worst rated linebacker and secondary teams in the league.

Please show me any stat that had the vikings LB crew ranked as one of the worst in the league.

Of course anyone wants to know sooner rather than later. But if he comes to the team in July and says i'll play, they arent going to tell him no. With or without Favre you draft a QB for the future. Beyond that what can you do to bring in a stopgap QB? Is anything in FA going to be better than TJ or Sage? Matt Hasselbeck? I dont know. I guess McNabb but we've heard McNabb trade rumors for years so i'd have to see him moved to believe it. Neither Cleveland QB has shown anything so why trade for them.

The vikings, as well as they have handled most all situations as far as the roster goes, have handcuffed themselves with the QB situation. If Favre doesnt come back, the other options arent exactly stellar. Basically, you give Favre all the time in the world to come back, and you can be almost guaranteed thats what will happen.

You put any pressure on him, and he's gone. Farve is like a timid walleye. Give him lots of line! grin

The Vikings brought in Favre just before the first exhibition game and that worked out just fine. A Packer fan's advice: If you want him back, let him take all the time in the world. Otherwise, cut the line right now.

McNabb is another short-term Favre-esque signing. I actually like Vick as a Viking, because he can do just enough to keep the defense honest.

I know we need to find a long term QB, but drafting a qb in the late first round or later wont get us a starter this year. SO if Farve lets us know right away , we may be able to get the best available QB from a trade. Kolb? I would take him in a heart beat!

How about showing me where the Backfield is rated in even the top 20

he really owes it to vikes to give them an answer so they can plan accordingly. the team gave him his opportunity to play on a team that had a great shot at winning it all and they let him come in late and get all the press attention that he apparently needs to be happy. now it's his turn to make up his mind and tell them what's going on and live with it.

would fans and team management be content with all the vikings pro bowl caliber players skipping training camp and saying they don't know if they are going to play next year? I doubt it.

The Vikings knew what they were getting into when they signed Favre. All the hype is AGAIN going to be media related and fan driven. He doesn't owe us anything either...we (Chilly)were the ones who begged him to play for us.

I could care less if he showed up at half-time of our first regular season game and wanted to play the second half...give the man his pads and let him play. This may play out for 6 months or so...I'm sure the Vikings are well aware of this and will plan accordingly.

Nice deflection of the question i asked you. You stated the LB crew as being one of the worst in the NFL. That is rediculous. You don't have the 6th rated defense in the NFL by having one of the worst rated LB and DB crews in the game.

How bout you find someone that ranks defensive backfields on their own and we can talk. The only thing i can find is the overall pass defense, and that is in the top 20.

IMO he will play. I can't believe with as well as he played, and as close as this team got, that this man would hang it up now. No way Brett Favre hangs it up after the season he had.

Right on Zepman. +1

As silly as he has been over the last 9 years of changing his mind, at least he does take into account his arm and whether he can compete at the top level. Yeah he got within a whisker of the Super Bowl last year, but his body might not feel up to the beatings and bruisings come fall time 2010. At least there is no injury problem this off season as there was last.

I don't think he's going to make up his mind until after Makato Camp time is over. Then he hopefully returns to the team.
