harvey lee
I saw this in a Frabill e-mail as a good tip for picking up crawlers rather than using your fingers.Hope this helps. Press lightly on the center of the nightcrawler’s body with a plastic fork. The crawler will loosely wrap itself in the tines, saving you from futile attempts to peel its slippery body off a wet surface, and saving the crawler death by squishing. goblueM
i assume this is off the pavement?don't see how that would work if they were halfway in their hole in the ground
harvey lee
It did not say what area but I would assume it would also work on a wet lawn where they are just lying there. For pavement where I pick up 90% of mine, its the cats meow. JimBuck
Cool tip Harvey. Looking forward to those first few spring rains.
riverrat56
I use a dull pencil when picking them off pavement, slide underneath and pinch them on top and into the bucket. Works slick.

harvey lee
I have also used the pencil method but the fork sounds much easier.
Crusty old Swede
My tool of choice for pavement is one of my wife's spatulas. Just remember to wash the spatula off when your done.
harvey lee
I use to use my wifes kitchen untensils for other outdoor jobs also. No more, she seems to not care for it.
Hester
I only find crawlers on the grass when its wet. When you guys say pavement, do you find them on blacktop or your driveway?
harvey lee
I find them in the grass, on the road "blacktop" and on my cement driveway.

This is the quickest method I know of. In the time it takes to fork or pencil it, I would think you could scoop five or more with a spatula... SkunkedAgain
I send my wife out into the yard with a flashlight. She thinks it's great fun. Who am I to argue with the way things work?
paul pachowicz
I'll take a few minutes in the morning when I'm mowing greens to pick a few dozen of em out of the sand traps. That coating of sand on em really make it easy. I just carry a couple of styrafoam coffee cups with me. Every now and then I'll pick a few dozen and throw em in the irrigation pond and watch the bass gobble them up. A regular feedin frenzy!!!!! Opportunity of the occupation.
