Crappies- what would cause this color????

caught a few crappies that were small and this color. Do they change color due to water color is what????

Looks like a white crappie for starters they will be lighter. They do also change colors with the vegatation. I had a crappie in my fish tank and it would go from black as the ace of spades to near clear at times depending on lighting and other factors I couldn't explain.

I have seen crappies like that before. Did you catch this fish in waters that are very dark and stained?

It looks like the ones I used to get out of Twin Lake in Robbinsdale. I later found out they are contaminated with teflon. The pigment just slides right out of them

As others said it really has most to do with the water color. Their color will vary depending on their habitat just like other animals.

thats a black crappie, not a white.

I have caught tons of metro crappies with that color.

+1 what deadeye said, i've caught alotta crappies outta twin and several out of other lakes that look like that too, pretty clear lake. I don't know why they're that color, but i've only caught little ones that look like that

I've caught lot's of really light colored crappies like that but they've all come from really clear water...I just assumed they became lighter to blend in more with their surroundings.
