Stop Loosing Fish

A while back I was watching an ice fishing and they show some sort retainer or whatever it's called that goes in the ice hole and prevents the fish from escaping. It covers the bottom of the ice hole after you have reel up the fish into the hole. Anyone know where I can find one?

Yup that's the fish elevator your thinking of I believe . They work good too and helps to make life easier for any real oldtimers with big bellies you may have fishing with you .

Yep fish elevator, I have two of them but only use them on one of the lakes we fish. Thick ice and big fish they really come in handy. Only problem I have is people walking by and wondering why I have a stick in the hole.

While we are on the topic, does anyone use a gaff? Should a guy use them for walleye?

Never use a gaff unless you know for sure youre keeping the fish. I dont care what people say, I dont think there is anywhere you can gaff a fish and not hurt it badly.

shouldn't mess with a gaff IMO. The fish elevator works well late in the year when there is a lot of ice like someone said.

I absolutely will never use a gaff. I would rather use nothing and lose the fish than hurt anything that is going back.

I have two gaffs, and neither has ever seen the water. Not even sure why I have them in the bag... hmmmm...
