wondering if anyone has ever tried the Mitcheell Avocet II reels. I looked at the Tica reels and not impressed they seemed rough for 60 bones. The Mitchell reel was there and 35 bucks with eight bearing and extra spool and is smoother. Used them when it was cold and worked good, impressed with them so far. Any other reels that people think work good?

I have no experience with the Mitchels but have used alot of reels on the ice. In my opinion you cant beat the Pfluger trion in the size 20gx for 29$. The Ticas are nice and I have a few(one I had to return as it had a "flat" spot in the drag) but I like the drag a tad better on the trions.

I did acquire a Shimano symetre500 recently and it is downright awesome, but they also run a 100 bones....

I have 6 Avocet reels. I like em.

While on Rainy a few weeks ago during -30 temps they held up good. They have a good smooth drag.

For the money, the Avocet series reels are the best bang for the buck I"ve found. I get mine at Wal-Mart for right around 20 bucks. Until I find a better bang for the buck I see no reason to switch to a different reel.

Being they are made by the same parent company of the reels I use, I say, they are ok. not great, but ok. I prefer using the Abu Garcia Cardinal 100u or even better 300u. great bearing system, good drag and with some searching they can both be bought for under 35 dollars.

If I were to make one comment on reels it would be get one with the drag on the bottom, I have one with the drag on the spool and the line keeps getting under the nut.My other one never bothers with the drag on the bottom.

I run $50 tica's on 3 of my rods and have a St. Croix reel and a Avocet II......I really can't complain about the Avocet as it does a good job and the drag is acceptable but for ice fishing I still love my tica's!!!!
