minnow outside or inside

If you dont think they will freeze I always try to put them outside and keep them cool and change water on them every other day. In a garage they should be fine at least after this weekend when this cold snap is supposed to leave. Just make sure you dont freeze them into a block of ice.

As long as they dont freeze in the garage they will be fine just make sure the low wont get below 20f and you should be fine. either way I would invest in an areator (you can get one for under $15) I buy one batch every 1-2 weeks and keep mine inside with an aerator. change the water every 3 days and you start to save alot on bait over the season

Garage when not freezing solid and then the cold basement floor. Aquarium aerater helps ward off freezing to a degree it seems. I have well water, but I think that city water is not the best for minnows (especially touchy types of minners). I change the water on the lake before leaving and then am good for a few days in the five gallon bucket. Make sure to remove floaters ASAP.

I keep mine in one of those large insulated beverage coolers in my basement. It works really well keeping the water temp down, considering I've got a wood stove going all the time. I'll just dump a bucket of snow in to cool 'em down when needed. I also run an aerater. I have no problem keeping them for weeks.

I keep mine in the fridge in an aerated minnow bucket. I run the aerator for 10-15 minutes in the morning while I get ready for work and then for about 30 minutes when I get home. Change the water every 2-3 days or whenever I was out fishing. I had shiners last over a month doing this. They may have lasted longer, but I used them up on the lake before I could test their longevity. I also "borrowed" the aerator from my kids fish tank after a while to save money on the batteries.

I just use the styrofoam minnow buckets and keep it in the garage if it gets really cold it will skim over with ice even in the garage but to prevent this I change the water every 2 or 3 days. I have kept a scoop of crappie minnows for up to 3 weeks doing this. the sucker and shiners don't seem to last as long as the crappie minnows do. that is okay because I will use the dead sucker and shiner minnows on my tip ups for northerns or for catfish.

If you have an area in a porch or in the garage that will hold a temp of about 40 - 50 deg, that is ideal. You do not wish them to go from one extreme to another as that will stress them, a happy medium is best.

Add a aeration unit and they will do even better. Store in a Styrofoam lined pail and they will last longer, don't attempt to feed them, just buy enough to last 1 - 2 weeks and they will do well.

Minnows will age out in about two to three weeks in containment, so factor that in and you will waist less.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
