Anyone running a new jiffy this year? I have read some here about the issues with SM and their new engines, I am in the market for a new auger right now......
What issues have you heard about there engines? I know of the recoil grease thing, 5 minute fix if needed. I just bought a new Pro Lazer and I personally have not had the grease issue with the recoil. If you have any info on an engine problem I would be surprised.

I purposely switched my Mag 2000 over to the new style Tufflite Dupont Zytel® Handle System handle. I love it smile I hated that curved tube steel handle. The weight and the throttle cable (could freeze up) was one thing, but when that thing would tip over with that old handle (and it would), if you had the air vent open on the fuel tank!!!!! Gas every where wink

Sets on the ice so much nicer. Unless you run into it, it is not tipping over. Did shave some weight off the auger. The new style throttle/linkage is much better than the old cable I had that was cracking. I used it in below 0 temps many times last year with no issues at all.

just got a new Lazer Mag and retired my old Model 30 Jiffy. man is the Lazer nice compared to that old beast. Yes time will tell about the composite handles, but if ya don't throw it around I see no problem with quality. Drilled 60 holes tonight with no problems and no recoil issue either. Very easy to fix also if it does happen, just got to have the can of WD.

I have had my Lazer for four years now with the composite handle, and the only time I've had a problem with it, is when I bumped it and it fell full force on concrete. Broke in one spot.

Other than that its been awesome!!!

I bought a new jiffy stx pro 2hp last year and it worked great last year. This year, I can't get it to run worth a [PoorWordUsage] and while letting it idle leaning on my folded down fishtrap, it fell 2 feet to the ground and broke a chunk of plastic out of the gearbox. I really though that was made pretty cheap until i saw the new models at fleet. I have had a model 30 for about 10 years and haven't had to do anything with it except for blades and that machine has been used and abused. So much for "you get what you pay for".

the jiffy stx pro is the auger i was going to buy to replace my 3 hp legend. My brother bought a carry over this year, very nice light auger, but i didnt know the gear box was plastic until i saw his.A light auger is nice but plastic breaks in the cold, all kinds of sm storys on here about broken plastic. sounds like your carb needs cleaning. ethonal is terrable for gumming u[p carb.

I think I may do the same thing Shack. I guess I never considered that the new handles were compatible with the older Mag 2000 augers (mine's a '98 I think).

Did you just give Strikemaster a call?

How difficult was the conversion (throttle cable, etc.)?

Thanks

Now, back to original topic....sorry bout that.

Get a jiffy till SM fixes that handle issue. Augers should be able to take a fall and not break...if it hasen't happened yet, it will and at the worste time. I've heard about the recoil, blades, and handle issues with the SM. Though the recoil is a quick and easy fix, the blades, which you don't want to buy the made in china ones are easy to spot a fix as well, but the stupid handle issue is horrible, espically when it breaks on the ice when out fishing...

buzbunni it was not hard at all. Mine was new in 98-97. I would say it took about 30-45 minutes. You just take off the auger, remove the throttle cable from the carb, then remove the bolts for the trans cover, separate the cover from the body, take out the steel handle and reinstall the new handle. I did have to knock out some tabs, but the service guys at SM will fill you in on this. Once you reinstall the plastic handle, the new style throttle linkage is very easy to just hook.

Last year I payed about $32.00 over the counter at SM for the upgrade. Good luck!

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
