First of all glad to hear you are going with Strike master. I have a strike-lite and absolutely love it. There are so many benefits I'll list the ones that i personally love.

+ Lightest on the market...19 lbs (I do a lot of foot travel and anywhere I can shave a pound is a bonus)

+ No mixing gas and oil. You can fill her up at any gas station

+ No smoky exhaust, you can drill in a shack and not stink it out

+ Its super quiet

+ Always starts on second pull

I guess it all boils down to is your type of fishing. They are all excellent products and hands down the best customer service around.

All but the Strike Lite have new motors on them this season, so whats worked for years will have to wait a few years to see if their as long lasting as they used to be.

What Stikemaster weighs 19 pounds anyway? Lightest I seen was 24 pounds?? My Nils is 22 pounds but has all steel handels and 48" steel bit, in fact hardly any plastic.

Since you were looking at the Express, or Pro here is my opinion based on experience: If you can get the last years model of the Mag Express with the Tecumseh motor those are nice. They aren't too heavy, have two very sharp blades that shave the ice, and will cut holes like nothing! Mine starts very well even in cold weather and once I got mine set up it has been very reliable! You shouldn't open old holes with a Mag Express though! If you plan to move and drill a lot of holes this one would serve you well.

For overall reliability, even though it cuts a little slower than the Mag Express, the MAG 2000 would get my vote. My dad bought a 10" auger in 2000 or 2001 and it worked great even though he didn't store it well and barely used it. It still seemed to start and run every time. I bought a "like new" one last year and she runs great and cuts very well. If you want a very reliable auger that won't need a lot of maintenance and has a blade that will last a long time, I would personally buy an 8" Strikemaster Mag 2000! I have never been dissapointed with mt auger. If you have a perm or don't move around or drill a LOT of holes this one is perfect! Even if you do drill a lot of holes this auger will do the job!

tyler23 if you go with one of the new strikemaster with the solo engine just remember to change the grease in the recoil. this has been the only major issue with the new solo powered strikemasters that I know of. just read the posts about the new strikemasters.

I am wondering about re-opening holes with the strikemasters? I do fish out of a permanent house every so often so this is necessary. i have been told that you couldn't do it with the strike-lite by some and have been told by others that it works better than others when re-opening holes? any comments? what would be the best strikemaster to get for all purposes?

The Magnum is a chipper like Jiffy, the lazers/strike lite are agressive angled blades. The lazers/strike lite don't work the best for re-opening holes and even heard you shouldn't with them. Catch 22 I guess... I still believe Lazers are the way to go. Not really into the Strike-Lite Auger flight (composite).

why isnt the lazer very good for reopening holes?? i do this quite often

when reopening holes you have a chance of knocking the dual blades of pitch, where the chipper style, found on the Magnum is slower cutting, but more of a workhorse. I bought the Magnum for this very reason.

I am having a similiar problem with re-opening holes. I have an older earlier Lazer Mag Strikemaster. It drills holes lightening fast with the original 8" inch that came with it.

I ordered the 10 inch Auger last year and the entire cutting design is different. The color is black. It has a center spike of some sort that the 8 inch didn't have. And it cuts holes way slower now. When it comes to reopening old holes in my crank down house...It takes forever and works you to death. I know the older 10 inch augers were blueand had 4 teeth. 2 chippers and 2 smooth. Which is better ??

I've got a Lazer Mag Express that's seen a handful of seasons. Never needed service, starts easily and drills fast consistently. If opening the same hole is your game then look elsewhere, but if you move frequently and fish often this auger exceeds my expectations.

i have the electra lazer dp12000

does it have the more aggresive blades?

does that mean it cuts faster than a chipper?

is there a diferent way to operate it as compared to a chipper style?

i used a jiffy last year

all lazers either gas or electric have the more aggressive blades and are a 2 blade setup where as a chipper style drill unit will have only 1 blade thus making it slower then the lazer set up and better for reopening holes then the lazers. the blade pitch is also different between the two of them I believe.

Last year I was going to replace my old strike master with a new strike master. I hated the chipper shaft I had on the auger, but the old beast started in 2-3 pulls. After much thought, I called Red Rock asked if they had a 224 shaft for me??? Indeed they did!!! Now my auger CUTS like butter through ice!!!!

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
