LX-5

Recommended Posts

Just was out shopping and noticed the LX-5 is on sale for 399.00. I thought that was a pretty good price so I picked one up and now my LX-3 will move to the back up position.

Any reason why Marcum is dropping the prices on these units? I just assumed they must be making way for a new flasher to come on the market. Anyone heard anything? Thanks.

That seems like a pretty good price, I thought they were a lot more than that, like 499$.

Kind of hard not to get a new flasher right now with all that sweet stuff out there (and a good price like that). Just have to justify getting something new when the old one still works. grin

seems like marcum and humminbird are trying to make a push for some market share. i think both companies probably know that vexilar has the biggest market share and brand loyalty right now, and by marking their prices below vexilars prices, they are stepping up and trying to grab some of the available market share (guys in the market looking for a flasher and are already loyal to marcum or are ok with straying away from the top dog "vexilar"). these days, regardless of the flasher you get, it is going to do pretty much the same thing that the other brand's same flasher does. basically only difference is price and brand loyalty. by humminbird and marcum having lower prices then vexilar, they are trying to forgo some profit right now, in hopes of gaining some customer loyalty after a consumer purchases their product and uses it for a couple years and decides they really like it. when it comes time for them to buy a new flasher, they will now have brand loyalty towards marcum or humminbird and not vexilar.

we actually talked about this exact thing in my management class last semester

I picked my new one up last April for $300 even, yes $300 (2500 watt unit). Couldn't pass it up at that price. Had it out twice so far and love it. I replaced an antique Clearwater Classic that I had been happy with. I have seen them where I got mine for $429 right now.

Just bought one last night. I have never had a flasher so I'm pretty excited to get out and use it.

You won't be disappointed. I like to give the Vex guys some guff, but flashers, no matter the brand, are almost a necessity anymore.

Yup, it was Scheels All Sport in Fargo. I had seen them on sale at various places for 449.00 and thought that was a good deal..but pleasantly surprised to see it for 399.00. I would have fallen over to find one for 300.00!!!!

how good is the color separation on the lx-5 when you got your bait right on a fish? can you see your bait Well in a school of fish? i cant see my bait at all with my fl-8 when its in a school.

It really depends on how tight the school of fish is and how near the middle of your cone they are. The MarCum LX-5 does have a feature called SFL(Super Fine Line) which makes all the units on the screen smaller, hence able to see your lure better in a school of fish.. I have had times where i can see my spoon and my minnow head as separate blips on my lx-5.

I have no problem seeing if I still have bait on my jigging spoon with the LX-5. I can usually see if my tiny jig still has a spike as well. Super Fine Line is the best feature, EVER. I don't use zoom often (probably should though) but SFL is nearly always on. It makes seeing your jig, big and small a lot easier in a crowd of fish.

I now have 2 LX5's and an LX3. The 3 will be the visitors unit. I was lucky and found that Red Rock was clearing the LX5 out late last season. Picked one up for $279!

It seriously shows spoon and minnow head as separate lines on SFL? ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS GOOD OF SEPARATION? I know esox magnum is a marcum guy ..you have this with yours? Seems a bit to good? Does the battery on that thing go quick when this feature is on?

I almost always can see a minnow head on a spoon seperate. You know it has good seperation when you can tel you lost your waxie on a small jig like a ratfinky or diamond jig.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
