RumRiverRat
Who is going east to hunt next week. I will be hunting in the Plum City area on my wife's grandparent's farm. Pics of a few scrapes near a couple of my stands A view from one of my stands 2 years ago, this year the field was corn. We cut down the tree in front of my stand this year to give me a better shooting lane. The deer typically come from the left then go out into the field to feed. With the tree gone I will more time to take the shot. The 9 point Buck by cousin in law Heather shot out of the stand in the above pics last year on opening day. Cooter
Well I'll be going south a bit near Eleva, not expecting to see a lot - one nice buck would make the season. I've decided not to shoot any does, pretty scarce after 3 years of EAB. Gorgeous deer country but they got thinned out. Looks like some good hunting in the above pics you got. Never fails to find scrapes in that low, black dirt ground with box elder trees eh? Good luck!
96trigger
What does an out of state tag cost?
RumRiverRat
$160 you get a Buck and a Doe tag.The area I hunt is a Herd Control Unit and there is no limit on antlerless deer you can take.Extra tags are 3 or 4 bucks over the counter. skee0025
I will be out in the Plum City area also, just off of SS. I went out here Tuesday, theres still alot of corn up though there were a few farmers out knocking it down. It looks like it might be another tough year. I took a doe in the early season on the last night so I'm not that hard up for venison if its a bad year. On the up side my dad had a nice 8 pointer walk through the yard monday morning. 1 day and counting! Maybe we will see you out there, we will be hitting the Corral in Durand for dinner Saturday night. I'll be the one in the #4 Vikings Jersey... Where abouts? The farm I hunt at is on UU just North of SS.You know where the Seven Pines corner is at UU and SS?One of the areas I hunt is the valley on the south side of SS from the Seven Pines up to the top of the hill going eastwest. If you see a Blue Ford Ranger driving around that will be me. skee0025
Hang a left at SS we are on the right just prior to the turn down into Peppin right by the big S curve in the road. I know exactly where your at. I saw a nice sized herd of deer on the hill side there last year when we were heading into town, funny thing was all the orange was on the other side of the hill. You'll see a Blue Chevy and a grey Escape in the yard, thats us.
RumRiverRat
That Hillside on the North side of SS going up to the top of the hill gets driven a lot, it is Open to hunting. We drive it too, always deer in there, tough to do though with the steep and deep ravines that cut into the hillside.I am still trying to picture where you are at by looking at google earth, how far are you from the Seven Pines? skee0025
On google earth look for Lund, junctions of CC and SS. Go east of Lund about 1 mile or so and you will see where peppin and Pierce countys meet, right on the S curve is where we are.
B-man715
Hunted around home today and saw a TON of deer! I sat dark to dark and saw 18 total, 4 small bucks and 14 does. All but four I would have be able to kill. My fiance hunted until 11 am. and passed up 3 small bucks and 3 does. And lastly my little brother hunted most of the day and saw 7 deer, and thought he shot 2 nice does, except one ended up having a couple spikes. He felt bad about it, but I told him it happens..... Not exactly what he wanted to be his first buck, but I'm proud of him none the less I'll post a few pics tomarrow night. Gotta go cut them up because of this nice "crappy" weather. fishtrapgirl
Husband and I hunted on our property in Barron County, in the Almena/Clayton/Prairie Farm area. FOGGY this morning! Husband got a nice fat mature doe at 0735 hrs. We were busy taking care of that, then I went to bed this afternoon since I am working tonight. Husband went back out and only saw one doe with her fawn. Slow day. Hopefully the weather gets better!
RumRiverRat
RumRiver, what part of the state are you hunting? Sounds like an awesome opener! Plum City area, Pierce and Pepin County.Saw 60 plus deer in 2 days. The 4 of us got 6 more today.1 Doe for me, 2 does for Heather, 2 Does for Jeff and 1 Doe for Lance.Spent about 4 hours running the Combine this afternoon/evening to help Jeff.Sure A LOT of deer in the corn. The 6 deer we shot today were donated as part of the Wisconsin Venison Donation Program. If I did not have to work Monday and Tuesday, I would have a shot at bagging double digit deer. Lunker
Considering I get resident tags in both states, it was a no brainer!Hunted Vernon county(east of lacrosse). Very cool part of the state, I have never hunted terrain like that for deer. Had a private 40 to myself which is mostly oak and a hayfield on a bluff with a creek and valley running along one side.Did not see a ton of deer. Passed on two smaller 8 pointers, one each morning. Saw a couple of does and got busted by two deer, one was a buck for sure. I was kind of silhouetted against the sky for deer coming out of the valley so I think my movements caused it. My fault for stand placement. Will be going back next weekend. Saw a lot of great bucks being registered in that area.
skee0025
Slow weekend for us. We were surrounded by corn. Only saw 4 deer the entire weekend. I took a 145 lb doe on saturday moring. I will be heading back out saturday and maybe on sunday but i have to work on both days. I'm starting to look forward to the late season doe hunt in December. PerchJerker
We hunt in Trempaleau County I think - 2 spots - one is south of Eleva, the other is northeast of Augusta. The fog on opening day was terrible, we had to wait until noon to get visibility over 50 yards. Didn't see much for deer but we did get 1 decent 8 pointer which was as wide as its ears. My friend's 12-year old boy shot that buck. I guess we also took a doe on opening day. Sunday was nicer and we saw some does but no shooter bucks.
Cooter
PerchJerker - did you hear about the bucks that got out of the deer farm north of Fairchild? About 20 of them, haven't heard yet if any got shot - vandals cut a hole in the fence.
PerchJerker
Did not hear about that. But what a bad situation, having captive animals running around loose and intermingling with the wild animals in the area.

PerchJerker
How far south of Eleva were you, I'm north of it just past the scenic overlook on Hwy 93. We are 10-15 miles south, on some private land in the Hawkinson Valley area I think (I don't know the area all that well). My buddy's folks grew up in that area and some years ago he bought a piece of land down there. I like that area a lot.
hockeybc69
Perch, We are about 10 miles from the area you talk about. Not a very good year for us. 7 guys, and nothing worth shooting. Maybe this weekend. But doubting it based on what we saw last weekend.
