moose hunt 2009 results-where are the moose ?

I heard that the harvest is way down this year. Anybody got any stories or harvest data ? Any wildlife managers out there with results? Any moose hunting stories?

A co-worker just showed me pictures of the bull her husband got last weekend I think. It wasn't a monster but not bad either especially when it's a once in a lifetime deal. There were 4 guys and they hunted almost every day, worst part of the story is after taking him, a larger bull was behind him and when they went to check his john doe, there stood a brutus, not sure where they were hunting but it's moose steak and burger for a while for them.

There was one in downtown fargo today, they had to tranquelize it and move it out into "safety"!

haha, i think the moose heard in MN is in trouble the way people have been talking the past 5 years its seems like its down hill every year, lets hope not.

Further report was the group didn't see much, a few tracks here and there and this bull they got was the first bull they saw, however they wish they would've waited another 5 minutes and they may have seen the bigger of the two.

Right on mrklean, I'm still stymied by that picture mrklean and had a nightmare about it. The moose "herd" jk is struggling, kinda makes me wish years back I would've got the once in a lifetime out of the way before it's shut down altogether. It's too bad really, I used to love seeing them around fertile, mn and north of red lake falls and the grygla area and south of warroad and from what I hear very few in those areas anymore. Do we know if like ND's moose population is suffering the way we've been told ours is ? Or other states ?

From what I've read, other state's moose populations, and those found along the turtle mountains of North Dakota are actually thriving. Weird stuff for sure. I hope I get drawn soon.

what parts of the state are there moose in ND? at one of our bowhunting properties we have been seeing a huge set of tracks since middle of august and we have thought it was just a stray cow. but now im hesitating on that thought. this area is near Mekinock, ND

Musky Buck, I agree! Did you ever hit the Grand Forks cut-across between TRF and EGF? They used to be thick out there, and now they're rare...

Growing up in Roseau and Thief River Falls we saw them often, and it wasn't a big deal at all. Now it's a rare find. My in-laws live near the airport in TRF and they had them in their yard every winter for a long stretch, and this year was the first time they had them around again. It's crazy how the numbers dwindled so fast.

I was thinking the numbers were going up from personal encounters, as we saw 3 in '08 and have seen 2 this year already. Hopefully they rebound...

In ND they just opened a new unit this year from the Williston area north to the Canadian Border, including Cow tags. Sightings south and west of the Missouri are also becoming more common. The unit that is adjacent to NW MN is closed because of low populations.

Through the first 10 days, hunters killed 79 bulls - the same number as last year. Sounds pretty promising despite unfavorable weather conditions.

looks like alot of heathy bulls were killed in NE minnesota. at least 7 bulls over 50" were shot in the and around the finland area.
