Minnesota Golden Gophers!

You got that right. A few got through the Offensive line like no one was home. The turnovers did help either. I really thought they were going to beat Wisc.

The Badgers fumbled at the 12 and it was returned for a TD. It should have been a blow out for the Badgers......they dominated the game period! wink

Why, because I don't drink the Kool-Aid or get all lathered up with the rest of you guys, avoiding the obvious questions and problems with the team? Gimme a break. Take a trip to reality once in a while and take the blinders off when you get there. It's actually quite nice once you get there. Maybe when the blinders are off you'll see some truth in what I post and not just the rah rah cheerleader garbage you'll get from the ol' Ball Coach or 'CCO. I'm not sure what state I'm from or what team I like matters, because at least I'm looking at it with a open perspective and not blinded by team loyalty.

You want positive? How about Brewster getting canned. That right there is positive. 0-7 in the "trophy" games and his overall Big Ten record isn't much better, not to mention more players getting suspended and the coach himself violating NCAA rules. Running that clown out of town would be the best thing going for the team. How's that for positive!

Yea...I enjoy living in Hudson and making a 6 figure income in MN. grin

Minneapolis — Of all the things that are different about Wisconsin football this season, here's one change that has helped keep the Badgers unbeaten through five games:

"We (forced) turnovers last year," coach Bret Bielema said, "but we didn't turn them into points."

Are the opportunistic Badgers ever doing it at the start of Big Ten Conference season or what?

In the league opener against Michigan State and then Saturday against Minnesota at TCF Bank Stadium, Wisconsin has converted five turnovers into 35 points. The two such touchdowns manufactured against the Gophers were a big part of the 31-28 victory.

Against Minnesota, the trend was evident from the start.

On the Gophers' first possession of the game, ball-hawking free safety Chris Maragos forced tailback Duane Bennett to fumble. Cornerback Devin Smith recovered at the UW 41.

From there, it took the Badgers nine plays to take a 7-0 lead on John Clay's first touchdown run.

And early in the third quarter, just after quarterback Scott Tolzien had fumbled the ball away, the defense got it back for him.

On third and 12 at the UW 28-yard line, the Gophers, who had been burning Wisconsin with third-down conversions, tried a screen pass to tailback DeLeon Eskridge. Linebacker Blake Sorensen, from nearby Eden Prairie, Minn., defended as Eskridge was bobbling the ball.

UW defensive tackle Patrick Butrym, from Catholic Memorial, made the quick-reaction move to pick the ball out of the air. And once again, the Badgers went downhill with Clay to convert the turnover into a touchdown and a 17-13 lead with 4:33 left in the third quarter.

"We're extremely confident in our offense to put points on the board," Maragos said. "We just want to get the ball in their hands. If the ball's in their hands, we've got a good shot."

That the Badgers have been very good with turnover ratio - their plus-5 margin was among national leaders entering the Minnesota game - has been a big reason for their success this season.

Against the Gophers they were merely even, with Tolzien's two turnovers and Zach Brown's fumble that led to Marcus Sherels' 88-yard return for a touchdown late in the game. Nevertheless, the Badgers were efficient when they needed to be.

"Since camp, we've been doing nothing but drills on taking the ball away," said defensive end O'Brien Schofield, who had another huge game with six tackles, including 3½ for loss, and two sacks.

And so far, it's been paying off big-time for the Badgers.

Bielema said preseason talk concerned that "if we get a turnover, we're going to capitalize on it. We've been able to do it for five games."

There's plenty of blame to go around on the Badgers side as well. Although they dominated the second half they did everything they could to let MN win that game and almost succeeded. Why were they throwing on third down when all they had to do is run out the clock? Then taking your workhorse RB out of the game when they were getting close to the endzone, which would have put the final nail in the coffin, but instead fumbling it away for six points the other way? Playing prevent defense and allowing MN to march down the field to score that last TD?

Aside from those items I mentioned which were very avoidable, Wisconsin really should have won that game by double digits easy by the way they played in the second half and dominated the line.

It matters because when you're a Packer-Badger fan we're fairly certain you don't want what's best for the Minnesota teams and you like to troll and get the Minnesota fans worked up.

I think it's funny when you state your packer-badger opinions on Minnesota teams and claim to be unbiased LOL. smile

And just because people want to look at the bright side of a situation does not mean they are oblivious to the wrong things they did. Everyone knows that mistakes were made in the game. But why dwell on them and consider it a waste of time to talk about some of the things they did right. Call it being a "homer", or any other term you may wish. I call it pride for the team you like. Why back down to people that have nothing positive to say about a team they obviously do not care about. If the Gophers are so bad in your eyes, why even take the time to post about them? Just to try and make someone else look bad because they like their team?

Fair and balanced.

If we're only going to have a Minnesota suck-fest where everyone pats each other on the back then why even have a DISCUSSION board?

Gosh I hate being the only objective one in a room full of homers.......

Bottom line is that the rest of us are on here trying to discuss the Gopher football team and their games, not just bash them and provide negative comments just because their not from the cheese state.

What is bashing or negative? It's all facts that you would rather choose to ignore. Sorry Charlie, life don't work that way.

No, the bottom line is you want to come here and stroke each other's "egos" and collectively deny the truth about how pitiful the squad is and the problems surrounding the program. If you want to have a discussion then at least have an honest one.

You mean like when Percy Harvin is brought up and your comment is "the bust probability is still very high". Isn't that the exact other side of the spectrum as the guy saying the guy is a future pro bowler? Sorry, thats not objectivity.

All I'm saying is let's not crown him Rookie of the Year after three games (Harvin). People need to settle down a little bit. It's fun to get excited about the expectations but we don't need to get carried away.

I think it's absolutely hilarious that I'm getting persecuted just because I'm not one of the sheep and prefer to look at things from a different point of view.....a view that the flock would rather ignore and believe it's Shangri-La. Well, there's two sides of every coin no matter how much you want to deny or ignore it.

Every ying has it's yang. wink

Well you take the extreme that someone puts on here and you go to the other extreme. That doesnt make you anymore objective than the other guy....

When boulders are being placed on one side of the scale and I'm putting pebbles on the other there is no way I can keep up, so a guy has got to throw a boulder on there once in a while.

Gotta keep balance in the universe!

Actually if you look at our comments you will see that we are not ignoring anything. I believe I speak for most of the Gopher fans on here when I say that we just want to see the program succeed and see a true college football program back in Minnesota. Personally, I love the raw atmosphere surrounding college football and actually prefer it over the NFL. I've been to many college football games, including 7 or 8 at Camp Randall and just as many at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa. So yeah, I get excited when I see any efforts to change the mediocrity of the gopher program. Building an outdoor stadium on campus is definitely a step in the right direction. I haven't heard a single person who's been inside TCF who thinks it's not an improvement over the dome.

Alright, enough negativity. LMITOUT, it looks like your beef is mainly regarding two things:

1) The Gopher football program is bad.

2) Brewster is a bad coach.

So great football mind, here's your chance. Here's your opportunity to show us Gopher fans your knowledge of college football, and in a positive way. I'd be interested in hearing your replies to the following questions:

1) If you were the head coach of the Gopher football team, how or what would you do to improve the team?

2) If Brewster is not the answer, then who would you have picked for a coach instead of him? Also, if he was to be canned after this year, who would you suggest as his replacement?

3) What would you do differently to bring in high caliber recruits?

You just happen to be a Badger state sheep. Not that there's anything wrong with that mind you.
