Snap Swivels

Does anyone use these to put their lures on their line?

When I was young, I would always use them. However, now I rarely use them... i'll just have several poles with different lures on them. If i need a different lure, i'll just re-tie. They seems to mess up the swim action of a lot of lures.

I use them ALL the time.. in fact.. I use them 100% of the time.

Ice fishing, open water fishing, you name it..

I am a big fan of snap swivels or snaps and will not start a debate about whether they have any effect on the presentation.. because in my OPINION they do not.. as I have never had any issues catching fish and always always always use them.

If it aint broke dont fix it and it is what it is.. whatever works for you. thats what matters.

Ice Fishing and Jigging in the summer I never use them. I will use them for casting and trolling though. I change up lures pretty fast in the summer until I find the color or style of lure the fish are hitting on.

Only place I really use snap swivels for ice fishing is on my tip-ups. Hook it to leaders/snells - not directly to hooks/lures.

I do use snaps, usually with a ~18" floro leader to a swivel to help with line twists. Don't use on jigs, mostly for swimming lures (raps/chubbies/flyers), spoons, etc.

I always use snaps. Summer and winter. I tie my winter jigs or lures with a short mono leader and snap it on. The fish don't mind at all. In the summer, I do tie my jigs direct, but for everything else I use a snap. Number 14s seem to work the best for me. Jake

During the winter ice fishing, I tie direct to small jigs. larger jigging baits(jigging raps, spoons,) I will use a snap.

Open water, tie direct to spinnerbaits, jigs with flouro leader. Casting crankbaits snap only, swivels when baits can twist easy. (livebait rigs, casting spoons and mepps spinner).

There is another type of snap I have used but I do not know what the name of them are and I do not see them too often. They are pretty small and I think they use them more for fly fishing? I really enjoy them, espesially for the winter. Does anyone know the name of the snap that I am trying to explain?

Are you talking about the ones that Broken Line is talking about. I use the really tiny ones for ice fishing. I have always tied directly in the summer, but this summer I am going to try using the c-snaps. They seem to let the jigs, or whatever you're using, move more freely. I never though of using them for fly fishing. I might have to try that one too, tying flies in the middle of a stream is a pain.

I'm with Jake on this. In the winter, I do tie a lot of jigs ahead of time and put them on a 2' snell with a surgeon knot. Then I put them on a snell holder. I can change out jigs pretty quick with a snap.

They are called No-Knot Fast Snaps. I got them at Fleet Farm and Joe's. Joe's only had bigger ones and FF had the tiny ones. They were in the ice fishing sections in both places so I doubt they will be there anymore. I would check Cabela's. That at least have them in the online store. I just checked wink
