bae501
Ok what is your best method for thawing and filleting the fish? Thaw them in water? Or just let them thaw in a empty bucket?
Deitz Dittrich
I would say they would thaw quicker in water.. My plan is to not let them freeze in the first place.
broman
Thaw them in cold water. They will thaw faster and more evenly.
tom fellegy
don't let them freeze in the first place. empty water softner salt bags work very good for keeping fish in. sometimes freezing can't be avoided, in this case, let them sit in the sink until soft enough to clean.............tom fellegy
andrew chadwick
don't thaw them directly in the water, put them in a bag first.

TravP
don't thaw them directly in the water, put them in a bag first. Why not put them directly in the water? They came from water in the first place.
Drewski
My plan is to not let them freeze in the first place. Same here.
walleyeseeker
If you think they were slimy before they froze, wait until you thaw them and try to clean them.

spotchecker
Clean'em when they're still semi-frozen. Cold on the hands but imo easier to clean.
crappiekid
If you are on long week or weekend freezing is required to keep fish from spoiling. When I leave say Red lake for home i fill the bucket of fish with water and place in back seat of truck. When you arrive at home they will be ready to fillet. Otherwise when getting home palce in your wash tub in luke warm water until thawed out.
bae501
So how long do you leave your fish unfrozen. I was on a 4 day trip to lake of the woods? If it was for 1 night I would have had them in a bucket with water.
leech~~
Hey, like they say on the Soprano's. "You gota do whatcha gota do"! Some fishing outtings last hours, some last days, keep in water, freeze, thaw, refreeze, what ever! You spent time and money on them, just don't waste um! Bryce
LOW and Red require you to keep your fish unfrozen in order to be measured. Red is the only lake I've heard of anyone being hassled but any lake with a slot could see you with a ticket for frozen fish.
