Clam X2

Anyone have an X2, if so how do you like it? My 6800 suitcase style blew in the wind and bent all the poles. All this after mice chewed holes through the canvas and soiled everything. I decided to just get a new pullover style shack instead of fixing the 6800.

Love mine. I had mine out last year in 30mph winds with no issues. The poles are still in the same condition as when I got it. The house fishes 2 very comfortably and will fish 3. The only negatives thing I can say about it is that it is heavy to pull in snow. If you have access to a wheeler or sled this will not be an issue. I say go for it.

I went from a suitcase style to the X2 and don't regret it one bit. I was always against the tub style but am glad I got one. It is nice to pull everything with it inside. My suitcase style I had to figure out where to put everything and drag it out. Snow always got inside also. They can be heavy to get in the back of a truck but with ramps it isn't a problem. Poles are extra thick as well as the canvas. I had my canvas frozen in the ice but was able to pull it loose with no damage to the material. Seats are really comfy also. GM had them on sale last week for $599 plus you get a $100 gift card. I imagine prices will start dropping fast on houses after this week. Best time to get one. I got mine last year this time for $500.

Love it!!!! In my opinion, you can't buy a better shack! The heaviness is just something that goes with the quality. Like everyone has said, those poles are great, it's nice not worrying about bending! They set up in a snap, and break down just as fast. You will not regret it, plus everyone will think you know what your doing smile

Love mine, had it out in 40+ mph gusts this weekend and held up great! I haul it behind the wheeler or in the back of the truck, so weight is not a problem. Gets kind of hard to lift into the back of the truck alone, but i'll sacrifice it for the quality. Rather have a heavier sled that will hold up and let me fish, then a lighter sled that keeps me home(like my co-workers this weekend).

bought a thermal clam in december, if money isnt tight go for the thermal. Might be heavier but the little to no dripping amazes people when they come sit in there from another portable. About the only time i have had it drip is when you first get heat in there on a really cold day then the dripping quits. And it heats easier than other flipovers. Thats my opinion and the seats seem more comfy in the clams.

I have an x2 and once the truck is driving on the ice I use this house with or without another person. it is a strong house and it is warm.....if you end up putting it in the back of the truck by yourself the tub is angled on one end and I just put that end on the tailgate get behind it and wiggle up into the truck....works pretty good. The only negative I have on the X2 is that they should have had grey sides and blue on the top....it is impossible to sight fish in the daytime in the X2 with the white/grey ceiling....Good Luck

how do poles hold up?

i have a guide and the poles are all bent to Sh** not good!

whats the difference between that and the other clams???

The poles are extra thick and supposed to slide much nicer. thats one of the reasons I want one.

the poles slide like butter! On the nipple that you push in to unlock the pole from the extended position, there is a hard plastic piece that it glides on. they are thick and you will not have to worry about them bending!

I have and X2 and last year I was pulling it behind my ATV coming off the lake at 40 MPH plus and it came open (I was to lazy to put the cover on) my brother was behind we and he said it looked like a sail. I rode for what must have been 4 miles like that and when I got to shore and noticed what I did I was sick thinking I bent the poles or something. Nope, not a single bent pole of anything. Now that is one tuff portable. Heavy yes, but I always pull with as wheeler or sled anyway.

Ditto on what's being said. While up north perusing Cabela's my non fishing buddy decided it would all of the sudden be a good idea to get into ice fishing. So he bought the X2, I was excited because I had always wanted this fish house. Well we took it out for its first run on Devil's Lake during the worst of the coldsnap several weeks ago. It was a terrible windy day, but the house stood firm and was surprisingly not to loud with all the wind. The only problem was due to the spaciousness the house didn't warm very easily, granted we were using the common sunflower heater (unsure of the BTUs). Even with not opening the door for several hours, we found the beverages to still be freezing in the house. While fishing in this cold of weather rarely happens, we were thinking what the thermal X2 would've been like. So my next purchase will be the X2 without a doubt, now I have to decide about the thermal one? Anybody else have any comments about the thermal model?
