Are there any lakes up there with special regulations that allow you to fish year round...similar to Pool 2?

I'm from that area, and no lakes open early. Even if it's a 'private' lake, state regs still apply.

So yeah...this isn't cool.

Your probably right, Late ice combined with early season would allow anglers to fish right after ice out. Heck last years WI opener I fished a lake that ice came off the lake the day before opener and that was much further south that Fergus Falls

Fergus isnt far enough north to open during the early northern-bass season.

Fergus is the red dot, the black shaded area is the early season.

I had to check were Fergus Falls is on a map. It's not even in the zone were bass fishing opens early. It clearly states in the article he likes to go in April.

I've never been one to get all bent out of shape about people C&R fishing bass out of season. But it's kind of like that Yankees pitcher who got busted with pine tar on his neck. You can't be stupid about it and advertise it to the world. Mr. Barbee deserves a 10 game suspension.

I think the editor probably didn't read it that closely. He's probably a walleye guy that figured he better throw a little bass filler in the paper.
