2 fishing line bill - thoughts

I'm not highly passionate on the subject, but I do think it's worth discussing. I read the majority of the thread in the Outdoor discussion forum, some good comments on both sides.

If we all fished catfish, I'd be all for it. When I'm carp fishing in the spring, two lines would be great. When I'm trolling crappies on vacation, awesome. Two lines and a tip up? Sure, sounds fun. Got the kid out just looking for some action? By all means.

BUT

I really don't want to see guys trolling muskies with an 6-8 line spread on any lake, or in the case with the north side of Mille Lacs, 12-14. The waters get raked enough as it is.

I'd agree with some of the comments in the big thread that two lines would likely lead to tighter regs, even if in reality, harvest doesn't increase by much.

I don't really want to see 3 guys casting muskies in the fall and 3 sucker lines sitting off the boat, it's just too much.

The bottom of our lakes and the rockbars are already littered with line and lead, we don't need twice as much. You can't tell me tangles, accidents, breakoffs and litter won't increase when people try to do twice as much of something they're not even capable of doing in the first place.

I'm going to vote NO on this one, again, but I can respect the dissenting opinions.

I come from a state that has always allowed 2 lines. While I use 2 while fishing eyes or anything else, I rarely ever run 2 for muskies unless I'm alone and trolling, and that even more rare. We don't run suckers and primarily cast. Unless I can figure out how to cast 2 rods for skies, ones plenty. I would be all for a 2 line 1 tip up rule during ice season though, maybe then I would use my tip ups.

Just make special regs? Two lines trolling, but not one casting and one live-bait fishing (although to be honest I might do that, but then again I don't musky fish that much, so it'd be nice to have a better chance of connecting when I go out), or designate certain lakes/areas of lakes single line? Personally I'm all for two lines, I hope it passes THIS time, the thing's up every year.

Well said 50. I agree with you all the way around and am against it as well. Take a look at Mille Lacs for example.....how many dead walleyes are floating around because of deep hooking and poor release techniques? Now imagaine double that because someone with two lines can kill that many more fish. If it aint broke, why do we need to try and fix it again, and again, and again. Leave it alone and move on to something else!!

i went on a semi-rant last year and started a thread about this in the metro lakes/rivers forum about the selling another line and the good it would do to keep kids busy and help make them more successfull. kids feed on success, without it kids lose interest. that's fact. pats on the back can't come too often or too many. better luck next time ain't a pat on the back. we need to face the truth. without the young's future monies, our sport is dead. everything.. no... EVERYTHING... needs to be tried to get them involved. here's a link to the thread on the subject i started there and gives my views and reasons and some reply's. be prepared to read because there's some long winded reply's and if you know anything about me i ain't a shy typer either smile. here it is if your interested...

mutiple lines inland waters...

if you read this you will find that minnesota's fisheries is not in as good of shape as it appears some actually believe. we're going broke AND getting less and less every year, and money just happens to be what makes it ALL go. and please keep in mind i fish waters 99% of the time that allow two lines and have too many fish. so i gain nothing. well ok... 1% blush
