Any open water guys? Rod selection

I'm curious as to what length, weight, and action rods you guys would choose for open water walleyes if you only got 3 rods?

My list:

Rigging - 7' Med Fast

Jigging - 6'8" Med. Extra Fast

Slip Bobber - 7 or 7'6" Med light moderate action

Figured this would be a nice break from the cold weather topics.

If you are fishing Mille Lacs.

G. Loomis IMX

HSR 9000 7'6" awesome rigging rod up to 1/2 oz. and good slip bobber rod.

Steelhead rod IMX 1024 8' 6". up to 3/4 oz. Works great on the flats with those long snells. Also an awesome slip bobber rod.

St. Ctoix legend Elite 7 ft ML. Good rigging, jigging rod.

Another good option for jigging G. Loomis IMX srj 721 or 722 not, sure if these are the 6 ft or 6'6". model #'s

TO, are Jason Mitchell rods fairly priced and where can a guy find them? I use a Gary Roach Mr. Walleye series but have heard good things about Jason Mitchell products.

Great pricing and available right from here on FM by going to Jason's HSOforum.

I have a 6'6" that I use for jigging, and a 7' that I use for Lindy rigging. Both ML action.

I really like the longer rod for riggin', and it helps get a nice hook set when you have all that line laying down in the water.

I also have a 6' that I like for more vertical jigging presentations.

I am a huge fan of the St. Croix Avid rods, they are the best rod for the money around.

Diawa reels.

I forgot all about crankbaits. I would definitely have to add my crankbait rod to that list. I haven't used it yet, but am really excited to this coming season.

G Loomis Crankbait series 7' MH mod fast. It will be nice not having to deal with line twist.

7'6" ML St Criox Avid for jigs.

6'6" Series One's for rigging M/ML

8'6" Fenwick HMX's for bobbers.

8'6" Garcia Steelhead/ Fenwick Fenglass for leadcore

8' whatevers cheap for bouncers. I think I run HMX's and Eagle GT's there.

7'6" Techna AV M for casting cranks.

I know more than 3 but thats what covers my bases.

Vertical Jigging - 6' Shimano Aero (old and not very expensive, but so sensitive I can feel everything)

Swimbaits/casting jigs/casting Cranks - G. Loomis Bronzeback 6'2" and St. Croix Avid 6'6" Medium

Lindy Rigging - G. Loomis 6'6" IMX

Pulling blades - St. Croix Triumph 7' or 7'2" Shimano Crucial

Slip Bobbers - Shimano Crucial 7'2"

All around back up - 6'6" St. Croix Avid Medium light

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
