HIGH water, Late start?

Water temp, water temp, water temp...

As long as we get some sun and warm days to warm the water, it didn't seam to matter how much water we had last year.

I think a lot of us have our fingers crossed for high water again. wink

High water means up the creek for me (but) they are saying the actual water content of our snow isn't real heavy so far. Fast melt and rain could change everything tho.

Might have to pick morels first and catch flatheads later grin

Unless the city of Carver takes it out, I think the bridge will be there for a few years yet. It's so called demise has been a discussion for quite a long time, unless we get nice flood like back in the early 90's. I don't think your playground is going anywhere Andy.

I would guess that this spring will be the last one for that bridge.

I wouldn't be so sure. She might get awful choked up with floaters. Hey with your expertise and experience on clear cutting paths up through there, maybe we should hold the KOTC gathering early this year at the trestle, anything can be done with the right tools and manpower.

I would be surprised to see it topple, unless some group decides to yank it

It'll be interesting to see what happens there this year although I don't think its going anywhere anytime soon. The bridge has been there longer than most of us have been alive, it'll probably take an act of man to get rid of it.

Wouldn't take much to blow all that wood out of there either. I mean last year all the wood moved from the left side of the river to the right side. Who's to say it won't all move back to the left again or completely get blown out.

I think the best and worst time to try and clear that area by hand would be in high water. One, the high water and a couple logs pulled (maybe allot more) could possibly start a chain reaction and compromise that pile on the east and west sides. Two, the down side is that crazy current is very unsafe and makes for navigating the area impossible.

If a group of guys could get out right now with gas chain saws and cut up a bunch of that junk into 4-6' chunks, that would cool. If I lived closer I would be in to at least go down and stare at it and let the brain juices flow grin

I guess if nothing happens on its own and opens it up wide, I am staying on the side of the jam my truck and trailer is on this year eekwink

As much as I would like to see it stay (it’s quite a historical piece) and it limits the amount of traffic upstream, it IS a man made safety hazard and I really would hate to hear about someone getting hurt or killed due to the mess not being cleaned up and or falling off the thing.

Something needs to be done, whether it’s annual clean-up, or just getting rid of the whole works. High water WILL reak havoc to that log pile and supports this year.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
