nils master auger issues HELP!!!!!

Did the cutting head get to iced up ? Did the first 3 holes cut fast and easy ? Is it a hand auger or do you have the Tanaka motor ?

Im thinking some moisture in the gas? Try dropping a bit of isopropel in it and see what it does.

Its wierd ya get 3 holes then it wont cut. Im thinking moisture or iced up baldes. Is it skipping on the 4th hole or is it cutting part way and bogging down?

shortage of fuel? Give some more details. When u prime it back up does it start and run for 3 more holes? good luck

Had that happen to my Nils, was convinced that I didn't do anything wrong as it worked perfectly for the first month and then would spin in the hole and wouldn't cut after that. Ended up sending the blades in to be sharpened even though the brand new blades sent did not work either, got both pairs back and all of a sudden it works great again. Blade angles are very finicky almost as bad as the crappies down here in southern mn, also the two prongs coming out of the middle of the blade need to be at the correct angle. Send an email to JP Nils he will get you all of the info you need. Be up there in a week, can't wait to get into some laker action!

Is there a trick to getting off the old blade on a Nils? I took the bolt out and tried to spin it out of that little goove thing but it wont budge, wondering if it is rusted up. I also have the same problem that the has been described. I used it plenty and then all or the sudden (with plenty of power) it will just have a really hard time "biting" into that top ice. It turns out to be about a 10" hole on the top and then finally once I get it going it takes forever to drill a hole. I figure its the angle of the blades because I recieved my new ones and do not see any real difference. So, as I started the post, is there a trick to getting the cutting head off as mine wont budge?

lookingforluck, I doubt its rusted on, rather the paint on the stem of the cutting head makes for a very tight fit. There is a thread about removing the Nils Blade in the Sharpening Service thread. The angle of your blade is fine, it just needs sharpening.

This is my first year with a center point head and i've noticed at times it just spins and doesn't cut. Not tryed it with the power head yet. Is this normal and should we be spraying something on it to avoid this?

I have had mine ice up after a couple holes, or when moving later in the day. Thaw/ clean them off carefully , don't get a finger close to the blades or stitches may be needed.

If it cuts fine once in a while then its not a dull or chipped blade. I'd suspect ice on the blade or bad technique with the hand auger.

Do they make an extension for the 6 inch nils hand auger? What is the most ice people have cut thru with these models?

I haven't needed an extension yet for my 48" Nils auger. But I've been close a few times. The 6" extension witll work on either the hand or power auger. It's the same bit.

I have never needed an extension for my 48" Nils yet. I have cut through some pretty thick ice on Upper red and had to bend to the ice but it got the job done.

If your drilling outside you'll probably never need and extension with a Nils 48" auger. For guys drilling in perms or wheel houses on blocking, its possible that you MIGHT need an extension under special conditions.
