Just read a artical on that in the Willmar paper last Sat.

I read they dont expect to many hunters or cats taken cause of movin the season away fron deer, and other big game seasons.

Is 5 by now norm or below? It also said the cat population in the blach hills is around 250 + or - 30 and theres lots of snow to slow hunting?

I turkey hunt the Black Hills every year. I have seen cougars almost every year. They are very majestic, and at the same time, scare the daylights out of me. Should I be nervous if Ihave cougars in the area, or am I fearful because I do not know anything about them? I talk to people out there, and they seem more scared of black bears. Sice we live with bears and I am familiar with them, I respect them, but am not afraid of them.

My roommate and I had a close call two weeks ago. We identified them as soon as they walked in the door. They walked toward us and we got prepared to defend ourselves. Luckily they walked by and sat in the table in front of us.

Since my roommate was scared of their experience, we quickly ate our burgers and left.

When my girlfriend (who waitresses there) came home, she told us how the two cougars in front of us when home with two guys whom she thought were in their low 20's!!! identification is the key!

Two summers ago a buddy and I where fishing underneath the 101 bridge in shakopee. we were catfishing so it was the middle of the night. we ended up seeing one adult female and three cubs. Called the dnr that night left a message and ended up getting a call from the federal fish and game warden the next day. She was only about 15ft from us and the cubs were less then 5ft. we weren't sure what it was in the bush along the river but ya ended up being the cubs, and mommy wasn't to happy.

Cougar sitting, I seen Big foot too. I believe many people get confused with lions. I hunt bobcats and coyotes on a regular basis in mn during the winter. We cover miles and miles of land. Alot of big timber areas. We have never come across a track. The Dnr says there are no cougar in mn. If there is it is a stray or released a pet. Even as a cat hunter we have hardly ever seen a bobcat while hunting them. Even when chased by dogs most are seen up the tree. They are very illusive. They are spottted by people on deerstands which I believe. People are more relaxed then and Do not jump to conclusions. In our area there is always cougar sightings especially just after deerhunting. Yet we have never cut a track.

Ya I'm a big yote and anything else hunter and that was the first time I had seen one in minnesota. I thought that I had found track out at the camp grounds by belle plain but I was able to see a claw mark on the index finger. So unlss something pulled the skin back and exposed the claw it was a dog. I grew up in the mountain of california and we had tons of mountain lions. It was normal for them to be on are property on a daily basis. Oh and on the bobcat thing I do believe it is either them or a lynx that people are mistaking, but I will give the credit till proven otherwise.

Cougars have been known to pass through the campgrounds by Belle Plaine. I have personally seen them in the area but don't get too excited over it. Here today, gone tomorrow. They roam the river valley from NW of Mankato all the way to Shakopee.

I found what I figured could only be a cougar track 6 years ago near the river bottoms by Le Sueur. It was the size of my hand with extended fingers. I got excited and called the DNR thinking they would be interested but the guy I talked to said it was no big deal and that there were a lot of mountain lions in the minnesota and mississippi river valleys. I have also heard of many sightings of them here in northwest wisconsin.
