New Spinning reel

Recommended Posts

The old Pinnacle Deadbolt went down with the rod. Now whats everyone like for an all around spinning reel? I'm looking to spend between $75-$100. Its going on a 7' Medium Action St.Croix Avid.

I was thinking a Pfluger Medalist, Abu Cardinal 800 or Shamano Symetry?

Thanks

I really like the Cabelas Prodigy line which is made by Diawa. Virtually the same as the Diawa branded Capricorn reels.

I think they may have just been discontinued recently so you might be able to find some real good deals on some old stock NEW reels.

New they were like $120 but discontinued and were priced at like $69 or so.

I bought like 7 of them in all different sizes just to use a spares and some for gifts.

I've been using the Prodigy stuff for like the past 4 years of so and have been extremely happy with them.

New Avid with IPC is about $170 for that rod

old Avid on clearance is about $100

If you have the new Avid, then I'll say get a reel that can compliment the the performance. That'll be a reel priced point about $150 to $200, around the price of the rod.

If looking at Pflueger Medalist look at the light weight Pfleuger Supreme. perhaps a 30 size reel.

Abu Cardinal 800 series are good, look at the 803 or 804 one, typically retais at $130+.

Shimano Symetre series, look at 2500 size. If you want an upgrade look at the Saros.

Diawa Exceler is price very reasonably. Tierra is just priced above 100.

Hey there!!!!

Did you ever build a rod @ Thorne Bros???

Got my first appointment tomorrow at 2:00 (I have a habit of procrastination..hope to be done by next weekend. LOL!!). Going with the IMX HSR9000 and probably the basic guides they offer. Not sure if I should trim it or not, but will probably run the full length. Never had a rod over 6.5'.

I'd try building one at Thorne Bros but its the busy season for me. If I'm not at work doing landscaping, I'll be doing landscaping at various family members houses or up north fishing.

But it would be nice to customize a rod.

I have a stradic which I've never had problems with but also bought a pflueger supreme last year and am very impressed. Would definately recommend it. Also just picked up the new pflueger supreme xt for under $100 and think it's gonna be a dang nice reel also.

I just got a Saros and my dad just got a new Stradic and we are both excited to hear the drag system in about a week. I think Shimano and Pflueger make excelent reels. I have 4 Presidents (Guide Series Tournament) and love them.

I have a couple of the Quantum PTi Energy reels. I love them. They are the rainbow chrome looking one's. I think they run around $100-120. I got a few years ago for $80 at Gander but then they hiked the prices up.

I just picked up the Daiwa TD Advantage 2000. I went in thinking I was going to buy the tierra but the salesman convinced me to spend the extra cash, $25. The advantage is all aluminum and has a lifetime warranty on the bail spring. Super smooth reel.

The SOL is also very nice but more than I am willing to spend. Its also all aluminum but engineered to be very light.

I think Diawa, Shimano, Pflueger all have great products.
