The J-Man!
You can't quit fishing. If it's in your blood it's there forever. That really sucks about your boat and truck.
dirtking
I only am covered for $ 1,000 for anything towed by my truck. But it is still a Grand - I get worried pulling a trailer of uninsured snowmobiles though!

TonkaBass
I dont' know how you feel, but I can say that I dont really believe in bad luck chasing people. You'll get a breather, just hang in there. Having boat issues are a pain. Mine which are not as bad as yours, cost me $1500 last year, and $1000 this week. You cant give up though, best sport ever! danfall
OK, I gotta tell this story. It's true.About 6 years ago, I planned a trip to Southern Ontario with my dad. He stopped on a Friday afternoon down here in Saint Paul to help me prepare. He left about 10pm and I was to meet him at his house in the morning. I headed to Cub to get some groceries. When I got back I noticed the boat which I had just washed out and had tilted up, had fallen down off the bucket. I thought, hmmm, wierd. It was kinda dark and so I went to go set the boat back on the bucket and realized someone had stolen the motor while I was gone. The next morning I went ahead and picked up dad and we rented a 15hp motor in Wisconsin for a hundo and headed north. Got about 20 miles north of Duluth and stopped for a sandwich and realized the rear end of my truck had blown its seals. Limped back to Duluth and rented a trailblazer (total cost for the 2 weeks I had it was 720 bucks. Forged ahead and got to camp at 11pm. Long day. My chevy was a total loss. I got 500 bucks for it cuz the body had no rust. The next morning, got in the boat, pulled the motor cord and apparently overpulled. Rope came clear out. Spent 2 1/2 hours fixing in the cabin.. headed back out. Got to my favorite fishing hole kinda slow, the motor wouldn't take us up to plane. No fish were biting, which was odd, this is my all time favorite fishing spot in the world. We moved some and caught two nice smallmouth, but no walleyes. The sky was a bit dark, but we decided it looked okay. About 5 minutes later, kawackboom. Big lightning strike about a mile away, yikes! We immediately headed back towards camp. Got about two hundred yards and were hit by 60 mile an hour winds and never saw as much lightning in my life. We hit the nearest island and hunkered down for the worst tstorm I've ever been in outside. 40 minutes later we headed back to camp. Dad asked me why I didn't give up. He said "you shudda stayed home".Decided on Monday to go to Thunder Bay for a new motor. 25 miles on bad road another 25 on pavement, we found a 25hp merc and paid 1800 US for it. Back to camp, we hooked on the merc and went about a hundred feet only to realize the rubber prop bushing was worn out. We fished a bit, but couldn't go fast or far without a working prop.Took the motor back to TBay Tuesday on the super bad roads... They repaired it and we headed back. Went out on the lake and took it up to speed, went about a mile and the motor bogged out. Flooded it badly. Was a Merc with the idle/run/throttle and gears combined thingy. Took about 20 minutes to clear the flood (can't open throttle clear that kind of motor). Got back to favorite fishing hole. They were frickin gone. I mean nothing. Five years of 200 walleye day consistent fishing, now zippo.Wednesday, was so ticked off about motor, went back to dealer and traded up to a 30 hp bombadier. Nice motor, but cost was 3200 US and it was a huge ripeoff be sure. Brother told me not to tell anyone I bought it or they'd charge me an export fee. Boy was he an one-who-thinks-I-am-silly. Turns out I had a GST rebate due of 7% if I filled out the papers right. Noone told me, ended up ineligible for listening to my brother. We caught 3 walleyes the whole time. Worst, and least fishing in history of travels to Ontario. Got home and bought a new Chevy for 31 grand. There can be no greater comedy than the efforts we make and the costs we bear trying to catch a fish, but we can never give up.Well over a hundred grand so far in my lifetime, but worth every cent. That new Chevy was a good enough truck to pull my boat to BC for some more crazy adventures.Just wish it were tax deductible.

EYESTALKER
danfall,I couldn't stop reading your tale. I actually caught myself laughing, for some reason. I think because in one fishing adventure you wiped out all of the bad situations I've ever been in while fishing. Thanks for the great story, and the laugh ! Gary Crichton
Well good luck to ya. We have a pearson who has the same luck. We dont let him bring his toys, therefore a lot less chance something will happen. The problem is who's boat does he go into.He is real good with anchors.(not). There is 2 good anchors and a locater IN Millacs.
marlinfan
we took a trip to canada got there found i was missing spare tire. My boat would not start had tolay on my stomach put my foot over carb every morning while turning the key to get it to start. Then the other boat had its steering lock up when the boat was running. so all 8 of us were stuck using my 16 foot boat. had to pull the other boat back. Did you know if you hook a boat on the loop for the trailer and take off fast it will make the front of that boat dip under water. On the way home the motor lock broke on my boat slamming the motor down hitting the dirt. Would not trade that week of for anything had lots of fun camping on an island. great memories.Good times come with the bad. The only thing i can say is forget the plow truck and remember the fish you have caught in that boat
brittman
City did not pay for my mailbox when they ran it over and I replaced the broken parts and reinstalled everything myself. All I was after was the parts - and it was just on principal.
Hammer Handle
Same here (on mailbox). The city took forever to "replace" it and did with a cheap wood post in a bucket of sand. Not at all like the post I had."That is all we are required to do". Fought it, then decided to just fix it right myself.

hill7410
A friend of mine had his pickup side swiped by a plow truck, the truck was only worth a grand and the city paid him 2300 bucks for the damage and it just clipped the back quarter panel. I would bank on the city settling with you. Good luck.
