Me with a Carp taken the same day as the one above. There would be more pics but as you may have seen, Tom M, is not so steady with a camera.

nice bowfin! beauty! those are some stout carp as well.

Your photos are making me jealous; I wish I could see the ground right now. We got 15" of snow yesterday. It will be awhile before the rivers clear up. Plus are lakes are still locked up with ice.

what baits were you using? thanks for sharing!

Things are just starting to hop around here. I was out taking temps today. Small rivers were running around 48 degrees and the back bays on two lakes were at 50 and 54 degrees. So the Walleye spawn is on or just about over and the White Bass are on the run. It surely isn't a good time of year to have a job.

Oh, we had the hook pull out of a nice Carp today also. It picked up the bait and just headed away. Drag screaming and not turning back. No question of it being a Carp, no other fish takes line that steady and long. I can't see how someone wouldn't want to catch a Carp.

We were throwing Jig/swimbaits (Lime green/orange Mimic minnows) today. Draging them slowly over a clam bed below rocks and a dam.

You should take the time to fish this area for Carp in the spring. I would like say more but some people would like to stick them with arrows and as you know, there is no CPR in Bow hunting.

I've had buffalo do the same thing. Either way, you're in for a battle!

I hear you about keeping hush hush on the good spring spots, especially after May 1 ;\)

sounds like you're having some fun out there. Hopefully it will warm up a bit this week and I can go back and hit the river hard.

The scale we had it on read 10 lbs. Though it was really unreliable.

Initial estimates put the fish at 12 pounds, but neither of us had any clue on the state record so we just photographed it, tried to weight it, and put it back.

nice dog man, I caught my first and a couple more last year. heck of a fight, biggest was close ten lbs. I was fishing crapps with waxies when I saw a few cruising around. There were a bunch of nasty minnows on shore someone dumped,I put 5 or 6 on the hook and they would just nail it, could barely tell which one i hooked. Soon as one knew it was hooked they all followed thrashing like the one on the line. Pretty crazy in 2 ft. of water. Must have been starving.

yeah he did! he took out a couple hundred feet of line before i could turn him around twards me. the hook came free from him before we landed him but luckily we had a net and my buddy managed to scoop him up before he could swim off

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
