Going Cattin - When, Where, and Who

Great post Tyler! It has been kind of slow in this forum compaired to last year at this time. I think our great weather has something to with this. Why make a thread about being skunked or small fish grin.gif.

Well, with the current weather forcast for this weekend and next week, I will hope to get down town by next weekend. If the snow holds off from this area, I will be hitting the Miss. North for some channel's this weekend and possibley by boat (the river is up nice and it will be the first time in 3 years since i cared to run my boat up this way).

By what I just heard on 1500am, it sounds like this weekend up this way is going to be cold and wet, with possible snow.

I guess there is always sucker fishing. They are running on the Rum River North.

Good luck if you go.

This will be my first full year of catfishing in MN. Only went a few times last year. Prolly start here in the next couple of weeks.(waiting for our relief checks so i can buy gas to get where i'm going.) Only if the weather holds up. My spots will more than likely be mainly around Mankato and St. Peter areas. These are the only areas of the river I have fished. I'll be fishing either by myself most of the time or with a couple of friends.

Weather permitting, I am doing some shore fishing tomorrow. I don't want to be far from an escape if things turn bad. I hope I get a window in the evening, but it doesn't look promising. I hope everyone had a nice summer. :P

I personally have been banging them pretty good already this spring on some backwater bays on the Horseshoe Chain. Looking twoards some warmer water and temps to get things really going.

St Croix is at 680.7 feet and rising. Normal pool elevation is 675.5 feet. All the islands are under water and there is a pretty good current running in the main channel. The river gauge shows a surface temp of 49 degrees. Spring high water time is here - once that temp hits middle to high 50's the channel cat bite should pick up. I hope to get out a few times in the next week or so. Good Luck, everybody.

Tried to catch some bullies this morning but nada, but this does not detour me from giving it a shot in the morning. Weather doesn't appear to be cooperating either, but still not detoured.

Crazy and I are planning on slipping out to pool 4 in the AM.

I have every day off untill monday. I plan on getting out between Henderson and Chaska some more. Should have some open seats for those of you I have been fishing with, or have been making plans to get out with.

off until Monday??? lucky b******d! \:D

don't think I'll make it down yonder way this week ( got my youngest in potty training boot camp! lot of work for me and Momma but well worth not having to wipe the kid's bottom anymore~ \:\/ ) but probably will be back down on the Minn next week.

If I catch any whiskerfish this week it'll be bullies for my bait tank or perhaps channels up in my neck of the woods.

I wouldnt mind taking you up on the offer. I dont have the rest of the week off though, must be nice grin.gif. If you are going to be out in the late afternoons or evenings I would love to fill one of those extra seats. But I cant over the weekend, it would have to be tonight or tomorrow night.

Got a taste of catching some big fish up on the Rainy this spring and now am interested in catfishin in the SW metro on the Minnesota River or nearby. When is the main season and areas to fish there? Spose I'll have to stop by my friendly bait store and get the scoop on this. We just globbed a bunch of crawlers on for the sturgeon. Any take on what works best in this neighborhood?

I am going to take a run at Pool 2 tomorrow evening for Channels. Looks like the weather is going to be perfect.

Lumpy,

If you are just getting started you might want to start with cut suckers or shad. You can certainly use nightcrawlers but you will likely be dealing with a lot of rough fish. The channel catfish are really starting to heat up right now. The flatheads are just starting to think about putting the feedbag on at this point in the spring.

Check out the "Catfishing for beginners" post. Everything you need to know in one post.
