Deitz Dittrich
Depends on your style.. I myself would not go less than 10lb.. On all my dock rods I use braid, just has that much better abrasion resistance. I use 30lb Power Pro.
MattWtech
last year i used 12 lb vanish for skipping senkos and flukes, that was my first time not using braid on docks, just experimenting and it seemed to work great for me, just tough enough to be able to withstand a beating. Bassman55
I use braid as well, usually 30lb test, just so I have a little more strength in case I tie one up under there.
jalberg
I use 20lb power pro. I tie direct in stained to dark water and use a Flourocarbon leader in clear water.
RK
Hiya - Braid here too. 20# Cortland Master Braid in my case... As Jalberg said, Fluoro leader in clear water, none in darker water...Cheers,Rob Kimm
Daze Off
Braid and mono - for braid I tend to go with 50-65# (10-12 # diameter) SuperBraid and mono is typically 12# Sensation.
bonefish
Do those of you that use a braid also use a mono or fluoro leader when using plastics? Or do you just tie the worm directly to the fireline or power pro?
Bassman55
I tie direct.
Deitz Dittrich
I tie driect, even in clear water...I dont trust floro to braid knots.
st.crioxfishin
I use 20lb and 40lb stren super braid or 20lb flourocarbon depending on what lures I'm using P.S. Happy Birthday Matt!
Fever
In stained or greenish water I'll tie direct but in clearer waters I'll use a leader of flouro or even mono at times with a blood or uni with confidence. Around docks I use 20lb Power Pro. I've also used 12lb-17lb fireline with success there. I've never had a problem with my knots giving way on a leader. I guess if I fished big money tourneys I might think more like Deitz but in my smaller leagues my approaches seem to work fine.

Ive heard that its very difficult to do, most people just use spinning gear. A shorter rod like a 6'0'' MH would work well with 20+ Braid
Deitz Dittrich
Quote:wondering, if anybody use baitcasters for skippin docks if so whats a good rod, reel setup for that. it can be done, but after taking the time to learn myself, im not sure its worth it. I can do it, but still grab the spinning gear. The only time I do it now is if I am fishing a bank with a baitcaster and hitting isolated weed clumps and a dock come up.. The weed clumps are the primary target at the time, but cant resist throwing at a dock.
