Thanks guys! That was a fun fight! caught lindy rigging for walleye,22 ft deep on a boulder point, 8lb test, 5 ft snell on a 1/16 ounce bannana jig tipped with a inflated crawler. Surprised the heck out of me. I know the length 49 3/4 but I never got the girth. Had a berkley electronic scale top out at fifty lbs and it hit top. I wish I knew how big it was! C.P.R. was in practice so others can have the same amazing experience I had! Besides that fish lived a long life I couldnt possibly think of Keeping it.

Yes it was, same as the state record St. croix according to two taxidermists and the weight calculatorn guestimates put the fish at 50 to 60 lbs it wasnt very fat but long. how big is the one in your pic? I never fished for cats before so dont know much about them. p.s. i've had alot of comments on the color too if that means anything.

Excuse my ignorance here, but holy cow! That thing is huge. Have never fished for cat's before, but I got to imagine that thing got your heart pumping...

It always amazes me that something that big and bigger is swimming around in the lakes and rivers. Very cool indeed, congrats..

wolkie, I love that attitude!

Some guys can really get offended when questioned.....but since you asked.

A couple of years ago I started measuring every Flat I caught (lenght and girth). Along with others doing the same thing I think we've come up with some pretty accurate numbers.

I have a couple of formulas that work pretty good as long as you have length and girth.

This is just my opinion, but if that fish is 49" long, just looking at that build, I would put it in that 35-40llb range, possibly bigger.

Sometimes those fish in the Miss and Croix get very long and not quite as fat as the MN river fish.

That's just my opinion.

I'm sure others will have their own.

Honestly it shouldn't matter, the memory of catching it should supercede anything!

Nice Fish

Yep, good tude about all this. Next time get an accurate girth, and we can probably help with a little more accuracy. Like dtro said thou, the exact weight doesn't matter. The experience and story, awesome picture are what really counts.
