Beware- More Pathetic Thieves Are Amongst Us

I dont think it would be necessary for them to do so. That is an easy enough task for the owner to complete. Any type of scribing tool could be used and you can put whatever marking you want on it. The key is to do so and keep a record of what it is and where its placed.

I also have been victimized and dislike the people that could do such a thing. I have had a couple portable deerstands stolen in my younger days and a backpack full of hunting gear out of my truck bed. You know run in quick 5 min or less and out without a thought of stuff being grabbed, come out and it is gone. I have taken the extreme approach of engraving my name, address and phone on the items in a conspicuous spot and then in a covert location in case I would happen to come across them again. I also keep my receipts in a folder and annually do inventory and or take photoes to back up my claims. Yes, they are out there and always will be but we have to help ourselves in the meantime the best we can. I do like the shanty watch programs and the fact that we can network here and alert and or notify others of bad conduct. This is a great site and you are all extended family even if I don't know you by sight or name. When you run into a person on the road and can identify them by the boat make and motor just because of the posts they have made that is a pretty powerful tool IMO. Keep your eyes and ears open, don't make things easy for the dregs of society and you will make a difference. They walk among us but they aren't at all like US!

Many people around here don't lock their houses and leave their keys in their vehicles. Some of my buddies wonder why I lock everything. I moved here from Colorado and they are building a beef processing plant right south of town. In another year or two I'll bet they will be locking everything too. \:o

A thief is not a thief becouse of a so-called bad economy. They are a thief becouse they have the morals of a pig. Matter of fact I know pigs that got better morals than a thief.........

I can't believe it would be that difficult- maybe just scribe it in an inconspicuous place on the plastic sled. It would have to help-aside from a couple of small details on mine I would never know it from the rest of the thousands of them out on the lakes. Any thoughts anyone?

I modified mine so I would know it if I see it. Another thing you could do is put some kind of information plate on the bottom (dought this scum would look on the bottom). Just a thought I had when I read this.

On a few occasions I have spotted identical houses to mine in town here. With the travel cover on, it is near impossible to make any conclusions. When this first happened I was so obsessed with getting it back that I went digging around under the cover of one in the back of a pickup at the local sporting goods store. After I stopped to actually think what I had done, I realized that I better refrain from this kind of vigilante justice-don't wanna be paying for new teeth in addition to all new ice fishing gear-won't be doing that again. Although I might ask any suspects where they bought their house and see what their reaction is-better yet, ask them how much they paid for it. Don't suppose they were too concerned pricing them out when they know they can just steal one instead. mad.gif

jigginlow,

I am not sure if sporting goods thieves are doing it for personal use or sale. I find it odd that someone could steal our 3 pairs of waders and find the exact sizes they need for personal use. In the situation we were in, we filed a police report and found out it has been an issue in the area for about 5 years. It is a rural area that attracts out of town hunters and someone is taking advantage of the situation. The local police officer stated that they are waiting for the day that they serve a search warrant and come across a shed full of hunting gear. He stated that the thieves are either the best outfitted hunters around, selling the stuff outside the area or just sitting on the stuff. They have been watching the pawn shops and web postings for local sellers. They have even gone to setting up video cameras around the local hotels.

The worst part was that the thieves put an end to our duck hunting for the trip, but we had pheasants as well. We had a pretty ticked off hunting party for about 4 hours after finding that we were robbed. I wish they would have stolen the skunk sprayed boots I had in the bed of my pick-up, but they did not want those for some reason.

One of the things I see the most in the summer time is the guy who pulls into the gas station or bait store and runs in quick while leaving tackel boxes, rods, reels, electronics all in the open, in or on the boat. Its just too easy to run over and grab a box with $500 worth of plugs out of the back of the boat. Keep one guy outside watching at all times. I trust no one or any situation. I am not obsessed with keeping my stuff from getting stolen, but I do what I can to keep it from happening.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
