I love old Outdoor Life magazines from 1970 and earlier. The articles were much better written then, in the sense that they told the stories of the fishing and hunting rather than the technical aspects that the magazines now seem to have.

Jack O'Connor was one great writer.

Gissert;
I enjoyed J. O'Conner's writting as well! His writting impressed me so much that my first rifle was a 270. Those older "This Happened to Me" short stories where alot more exciting/better reading back then.

I read (in order of favorite) Boundary Waters Journal, Field and Stream, Outdoor Life, In-Fisherman, Walleye Insider.

I am considering not renewing my subscriptions to In-Fisherman and Walleye Insider this year. This magazine has gone down hill alot in the last 5 years.

Seabass,

I agree with you, since the Linder brothers sold off the publications it's gotten less interesting.

My "beef" is Walleye Insider is now cramming 3-months of "information" into a single printing--what a joke.

S/A and Outdoor Life have sold-out to the non-hunting, non-fishing crowd too. If I want to read about Camping, hiking, climbing, etc. I'll buy Outdoors magazine.

I'm not renewing W/I again. It's mostly re-hash of the same old stuff anyway.

I now read the Outdoor News for local regional stuff and Gray's Sportinig Journal for the best writing and photography in print today.

I like the In-Fisherman line of books and their line of magazines. Minnesota Sportsman is another one. Tom Gwuenwald (Sp?) also has a nice line of books out there for ice fishing. North American Fishing has a series of hardcover books that I've been collecting, I think I have about 20 or so now smile.gif All the ice guides too. Dave Genz's Bluegills book is a good one too. So many out there, I know I missed a few. They all get read over and over wink.gif

For videos, I like the In-Fisherman series. All the ice fishing videos are great. They get watched a few times every winter while I wait for ice, like right about now wink.gif

I also like watching all the fishing tv shows as well. If its fishing, I'll watch it.

Fishfever.com also has a lot of cool footage of fishing as well. "Real time" action footage that will have you gasping on a few of them. Worth the look.

Good Fishin,
Matt

This forum is my favorite for fishing material. I've learned alot from just reading what everyone has to say. Everything else I read is just one great big comercial. When you interact with this forum you get honest unbiased opinions.

I noticed that the Outdoor News by Glenn Meyer was mentioned and it is a timley and accurate weekly publication that mentions the latest fishing, hunting political and reminders of the upcoming season event's. This is a must have if you live in Minn!
Another must have for me if you want real articles about hunting and fishing for our 5 state area is Fur, Fish and Game. This magazine relates to much of what we do locally and what is affordable to most of us.
If you want to sit in your Lazy Boy and dream of trips you cannot afford, get with the program!!! There is a lot that you can do if you read the right publications and set your goals to do it this year!! Tommorrow may never happen. If you stick your neck out a little bit, you would not believe the rewards! If any of you don't believe this, let me know for I have some shining examples of what you can do for little.

Perchpapa, you're right. There's more info on this site than any magazine out there. The best thing about it is that it's interactive. You can ask questions and get answers, no book will do that for you. One author who's storys I love to read is Patrick McManus. I think it was Outdoor life, the very back of the magazine. His storys were always very funny.

Outdoor News is a great publication. I still subscribe to In-Fisherman and Walleye-Insider but there is no way I am renewing. They could offer the mags for free and I would refuse. All they're good for now is the burn pile.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
