Did they raise the daily bag limit on Yellow??? I heard Wi DNR raised the bag limits on 400+ lakes just wondering if Yellow was one of them

Yes. Last Saturday the limit was raised to 3.

I had an okay weekend on the walleye, and absolutely hammered the big crappies yesterday. I'll try to post a report later today.

Also did well on crappies last 2 weekends. Had to move around but when we hit em, we really hit em. Also managed a few walleyes albeit on crappie minnows. Did watch a guy land a 23" fat eye in waders that he kept (ugh!).

I don't know what a "good" day fishing eyes on Yellow is yet so catching a few was nice.

Well, I finally got the boat in the water for her maiden voyage of the season Saturday. It was late afternoon before everything was ready to go. I looked for the crappies with no luck. Did manage a nice northern that found it's way into the fryer that night.

Sunday morning was a different story. I searched for walleyes from shallow 6'-7' all the way down to 18' Finally found a few scattered between 13-16 FOW. Kept two nice 16 inchers and this fat 22" (released).

Monday was a struggle for me with cold temps and high winds. Did manage another 16" and another fat 22 incher, also released. Spent most of the day monitoring my smoker full of ribs and a wild turkey breast. smile

All fish came on live bait rigs with leeches. Not one bite on crawlers, never tried fatheads.

Tuesday was my birthday and my wife took the day off so we could stay one more day and give me a chance to fish on my birthday. Nice huh?

The day was not wasted as I looked for the crappies one more time, and found them!

Kept 20, including one nice bonus gill. I consider myself a walleye guy, but when the crappies are biting, there's nothing I'd rather do. I rarely keep more than a meal or two, but it's been 8 months of venison with no fresh fish. This just changed as we had three meals since Saturday! Most of these fish were spawned out, all the bigger fish were done. This bite will probably be over by the time I get back there on Saturday, but I'll give it another try.

Elsewhere around the lake, I heard of people catching numbers of walleye in shallow water, 2'-3' casting raps or jigs and minnows, all the way out to 17' where my deepest fish came from. Just goes to show that walleyes are where you find them.

The crappies I found were holding tight to weeds in 3-4 FOW. Caught 50/50 minnows and plastics, but the plastic put more of the bigger fish in the boat. Black/black was working for me this day.

Good job Donbo! The extra day paid off. And Happy Belated Birthday!

Me and the family had to grind it out but we ended up with 3 keeper eyes and almost a dozen crappies. All fish were caught on the bottom using Lindy Rigs, even the panfish!

Anywhere from 6-24 feet deep. Minnows, leaches and crawlers all worked for us.

The fish below was the biggest we kept at 18".

Nice reports and pics! Yep we found most crappies between 3-7 ft. We found them Friday evening in 4 feet then early next morning they were all sitting out in about 7.5 feet. Water temp hovered around 59 on my finder all weekend.

Also caught two big perch and a handful of gills that were very nice.

The best crappie bite in memory continued this weekend. We found them in places never before known for holding crappies. Ever after a major cold front rolled through Saturday afternoon, the bite remained strong Sunday.

Most were caught in 8-10 FOW. Crappie minnows worked, but plastics outfished them by a slight margin. Pink/white seemed to be the color of choice with a bright sky.

My friend KWood took advantage of Wisconsin's "Free Fishing Weekend" for her first ever crappie bite.

A couple of the big sunnies this lake is known for also found their way into the livewell.

Walleyes still seem to be scattered, but some were found in the 14'-18' range. Leeches still are the prefered bait, but crawlers are now taking some fish.

Well, with this weather the water temps should not be racing upwards. Will be up this weekend and hope to get after them again.

Temps were pushing 60 last Sunday.

Hey Muskiemanzan, where ya been????

crappies still biting? Going to be up this weekend. Just curious.

Wish I knew. Didn't get up there last weekend and won't be there this weekend.

Did hear they were still getting some a little deeper, off the weed edges.

Musky fished Yellow for 4 hours early Wednesday morning. Caught a 21" Walleye on a bucktail (Ghosttail) at the river mouth - first time I've ever caught a Walleye on a Musky lure. This fish hit harder than most muskies and put a huge bend in my LT Long Ranger rod. Worked the area around Jefferies Landing and saw a monster 50+ cruising the shallows and she had lots of spawning scars left on her. The water was VERY clear and hardly any weed growth - could see the bottom in most areas. Surprisingly a disappointing visit - didn't even catch a Pike. Will be up again in a few weeks - will keep all posted.

Hit Lake Twenty-Six for the first time ever on Thursday morning. What a beautiful lake - reminds me a lot of my home lake. Had three muskies follow but no takers. Two were quite small and the third would have possibly hit 40". Caught several small pike too. Water is so clear you can see the bottom throughout the lake. Overall the most enjoyable day of the trip.

Big Bluegills and Crappies were king this trip. Brought back plenty of fish for a good fish fry.

I fish the Loon Chain most often (Love, Minerva, etc) as that's where my cabin is, but if any of you ever see me out feel free to stop by and say hi. I've always got cold beer in the cooler. I'm in an Alumacraft Magnum with a big bad Merc on the back.

Take Care

Vic

I fished last night from 6-9. Best fishing I've had this year. Picked my first spot on a weedline next to a good drop-off and never moved. I had a limit of nice gills, two northern and lost a nice eye at the boat. All on leaches with slip bobbers. I did better throwing into the weeds but still did good a little deeper.

Last weekend was alot slower. Fished all day and managed a couple small eyes and a handful of gills and rock bass. I was using crawlers at that time.

Crappies remain abundant, and active. Look for surface action of baitfish in the weeds, the crappies will be there. Crappie minnows and plastics are both taking fish, though the average size has gone down a bit.

Walleyes are realy scattered with all the wild weather. We caught them from 7-18 FOW this week. Most came from 12-14'. Crawlers were best on Lindy rigs, leeches were the ticket for bobber fishing.

I haven't said nothing in quite some time. Haha sorry about that guys.

Haven't done too much serious fishing because I've been busy doing yard work a home. But I have noticed that the "keepable" count of walleyes is up more than last year. This weekend didn't really fish at all because of the crowds. I am planning on doing Muskie and bass fishing seriously for the remainder of the summer and will let ya know what goes on but until then good luck!

Fished on and off all last week. Spent a few days catching huge bluegills. Only fished mornings but found quite a few walleyes as well, but shallower than most Ive talked to. We were finding them in 5-8 ft. A keeper here and there, lots just below, and a couple around 19". Nothing huge......all released. Slips with leeches mostly but crawlers on lindys worked well when I had crawlers on board.

So What's the deal with Ike Waltons? I've eaten there a few times now and the place is just dead, even the night before 4th. There were 3 tables of people in that huge place. I haven't seen service like that, well, I don't know when. 2.5 hours total for not so good chow. Nice enough folks but cripes...

We found the same thing last time there. Apparently the place is for sale, and the owners don't realy want to put anything into it to keep it going. Sad.

I got out one morning over the weekend and also found real nice bluegills, those 8.5-9 inchers, most had eggs yet. Also caught 2 crappies with eggs in them, I'm assuming the spawn just won't happen this year.

Walleye fishing was really good, probably caught 25 in a few hours, most where 14.5 inches, had a handfull of 16 and 17 inchers to keep though.

Yeah it is sad about Ike’s. It used to be a busy place, especially the buffet sat nights. It started slowly going downhill a few years ago, although last summer we got pretty good food and service a couple times. I hope someone buys it and turns it around. Yellow needs more places accessible by boat than just the Lodge. I like the Lodge, but it’s fairly small and gets too packed. With the amount of people around, a bar/grill on the lake with decent service should do well, even if they were open only summer months.

Has there ever been talk about a slot on Yellow Lake Walleye, or has there ever been anything like that in the past? Seems like a big population of eater size eyes and below but not too many lunkers. I'm assuming most anything over 15" gets eaten (or speared) at some point.

I've never heard anything like that. Wisconsin doesn't do much fine tuning-by the lake like MN does. Be nice though, I release anything over 20", but doubt many others do.
