bassNspear
So its getting close to the draft. Who do you think is going to go #1, and who do you think the viks are going to go after?
Scott M
Probably McFadden as 1 or 2.I'd like to see the Vikings draft a WR. Maybe Limas Sweed or DeSean Jackson.I'm sure the picture will clear up a lot between now and April. I'm not even sure who all the free agents are this year. beer batter
Who's got the number 1? Miami? Glen Dorsey should go number 1, but I don't see Miami drafting defense (if they keep the pick). And with Ronnie Brown, I doubt they'd take McFadden. They need a QB but I don't foresee any college QB worthy of the top overall pick.I hope the Vikes don't pick another WR #1. I'd rather see a pass rushing de, or shutdown cover corner. As much as I love Winfield's tackling, I think his coverage leaves something to be desired. I think Winfied might be better suited as a Bob Sanders type of safety with the run support hard hits.
james_walleye
I haven't looked yet to see whats available but seeing as this team is pretty much playoff ready i'd like to see them nab a top free agent reciever before the draft and address that right away. If this happens i wouldnt mind seeing them take a right tackle honestly in the first. I know its not a glaring need but its a need and safer than picking a reciever. We also need a young safety. bassNspear
i hope the vikings get a solid wideout. They need to get someone that can help the offence with deep ball and outs.
CodyDawg
Playoff ready? Mebbe so....IF they had a QB. How can you think we are playoff ready with a guy who has what, 1 career game with over 200 yards passing? Take a look at the teams in this years playoffs and their QBs. At some point, you have to not only make the defense respect your passing game (which TJack does not), but you have to excel in it. We have neither. jigging-matt
Here is thought that was on the news the other night. What if Denver releases Javon Walker? How would he look in purple?
ozzie
How about giving our #1 pick for Chad Johnson......KFAN says Cincy is open to trade talks for Ocho-Cinco!! You can't blame T-Jack to much when he is throwing to T Williamson, B Wade, and Robert Ferguson!!! I think KFAN also stated that B Berriman form Chicago is a free agent.......With S. Rice add either of those 2 wrs or both and we have a solid offense to go with our solid defense.......Winfield is a great tackling corner but he is horrible on coverage.....just look how we did without him in the line-up for the few games.....a shut down coverage CB would be huge for that defense!!! otto_man
I think the Vikings should take a look at what the Packers do on draft day, youngest team in the league and they are one win away from the superbowl! Not bad if I have to say so myself...
JAR JAR
May be the Vikes should look at Mcnabb being that Philly doesn't seem to like him anymore. I'm not a Vikes fan but I think that Mcnabb would fit in over there.Just my two centsJar Jar
zamboni
Theres been a ton of rumors that the Vikes might work a trade with Arizona for Larry Fitzgerald and since he is from here, he is all for it. I can't remember what all the details were, but did NE get the extra first round pick?
bassNspear
do you really think that there going to go for mcnabb?
james_walleye
Yeah playoff ready, as in needing 1 or 2 pieces. They don't need much. Meaning they are right there and a piece or two puts them in the playoffs. Unlike other teams who have to revamp half their team to have a shot at the playoffs. koonie
The only reason they are one win away from the Super Bowl is Bret Favre, and the packers didn't even draft him. They didn't draft Grant either for that matter.Oh yeah. To answer the original question. #1 overall will almost certainly be a D-lineman. With Parcells running the show in Miami I'd guess Long(Howies' son) will be the pick, if not it will be Dorsey from LSU or they'll trade down(unlikely). As for the Vikings I'm thinking Bowman(wr), Kelly(wr), Baker(ot), or Harvey(de). I'm Voting for Kelly because he has everything it takes to be a #1 reciever. Best in this class. koonie
We really need to look to the future. Adding a veteran(old) qb like McNabb isn't going to help us in the long run. I don't think giving up draft choices for Johnson or someone like that is the answer. We need to draft good young players and develop them so we can be good for the long haul. Adding a few vets along the way can help but guys like McNabb, Johnson, and Walker are just stop gap. Besides these guys will are available because they are either old, injury prone, or selfish me first players. McNabb(old, injury prone), Walker(extremely injury prone) he may need surgery again plus he has a $7 million price tag, Johnson(the world revolves around him and his TD celebrations, just ask him). Draft smart, develop young players.
Kyle Sandberg
koonine, I believe your right and need to get a young kid in here that'll stick it out in the long run. I also think we are gonna need to get a good young core of WR. Rice is not bad and there are also a few others that are ok but we need a number One guy again. Just my opinion. mrklean
McFadden will go number 1. I saw some rankings and Ray Rice isnt expected to go till second round, whats with that???
koonie
Bill Parcells will not pick McFadden with the number 1 pick! The only way he goes number 1 is if somebody trades up and that is extremely expensive in terms of draft picks they would have to give up.
bassNspear
You can fight all day long about where Farve ends in the record books amoung QB, but this last year, Brady was a better QB, but as far as history, Brett is by far the lead runner it in. Hes carried so many packer teams on his back, and set so many records, there is no reason not to think hes #
Bluegill1510
I doubt Parcells will take McFadden as well, they already got Ronnie Brown, and I bet they take Dorsey out of LSU or trade down and pick Brohm QB from Louisville. But Dorsey makes sense because he is a top 3 player in this draft unless his combine workouts and interviews are terrible, and the phins defense is getting old and expensive! I was listening to PA and Dubay on KFAN the other day and the possibility of Jason Taylor the phins DE being traded and he would be a definite upgrade in our pass defense, but for what cost? 2nd/3rd rounder? Just a reminder the vikes have 2 3rd picks this year in a switch draft picks trade they did with Denver in last year's draft and so we could part with one 3rd round pick. Also the vikes won't take a WR in the 1st round, not with this front office and coaching staff, they will take best player available especially picking at 17 instead of picking for need. (Unless the best available player at #17 is a WR then we might take him, but I highly doubt we will take a WR 1st round) Look at last year when we took Adrian, we really didn't need another running back with Chester Taylor and his career year the season prior but the vikes took AP for best player available.....and I think thats how you have to draft, look at when we drafted Moss, look at the Pats with Belicheck picking Maroney when they had Dillion, and drafting 1st round d-lineman like Wilfork, Seymour when they already had a stud d-line 5 or 6 years ago with McGinest, Sam Adams, etc. Look for us to trade or go out and sign a #1 WR in this years Free agency, Bernard Berriman, DJ Hackett, and maybe Fitzgerald! But what this team needs is a good recieving TE (kid out of Missouri "Rucker" he had a good year and looked good in his bowl game, might be a possible draft pick for us), WR's (cuz Williamson, Ferguson are gonna be gone) depth at D-line, depth at corner, and good back up center for Birk cuz he is getting old. 10,000 Casts
ok it's solved, Pick up Chad Johnson asap. Then go after Mcnabb, and draft a pass rushing DE. I would take any one of those senarios!Does anyone need a top pick and a good RB that can get you 3 yards everyime?
koonie
Berrian and Hackett aren't really number 1 recievers and will likely be way overpriced considering there aren't many quality recievers in this years free agent class. Fitz would look good in purple. Ocho Cinco please noooooooo! This guy is so egocentric it defies belief. He's an amazing talent but a completely self absorbed child.AP wasn't a best player available pick in the traditional sense of that term. He was the best player available in the draft period!I still don't believe Dorsey will go Number 1 to Miami because he doesn't fit the scheme that Parcells like to run. Parcells may not be the "coach" but he'll be the COACH.Go to footballsfuture and you'll learn a lot more than you will from KFAN.If we go bpa in the first round it should be best wr,de, or cb in that order. No safeties in the first round though unless it's Ed Reeds clone. It will be fun to see how it all plays out in April. This topic makes these cold, boring Jan. nights a little more bearable.Who else has an opinion on this exact science of the NFL draft?I completely agree with drafting Rucker! Third round? Bluegill1510
Not gonna happen 10,000 casts, Cinci already stated that they won't trade Chad Johnson and McNabb isnt what this team needs, if the Ravens cut McNair then I could see us going after him hard in Free Agency as a backup and probable starter. Koonie thanks for HSOforum info, I'll go check it out, I just listen to KFAN cuz its really the only sports talk shows that talk about minnesota sports, unlike the 660 the "Bear" in St. Cloud with all the ESPN knuckleheads. I know Berrian or Hackett aren't #1 WR's in this league but like you said with lack of quality WR available in this year's free agency, who do you go after? Javon Walker ahh no, Berrian will prolly get franchise tagged or some outragous offer to stay with the Bears, same goes for Hackett, bump from above, Fitz would look good in purple or even Boldin...(and I think one of them has to go in Arizona), oh and can't forget Donte Stallworth will prolly be a FA as well, and possibly Roy Williams from DET.I just don't want the vikes to make the same mistake like they did taking Williamson for a WR in the 1st round..look at Calvin Johnson for the Lions and he didn't have that great of a year or Mike Williams who is playing where now a days? I guess if there is a D'wayne Bowe type WR at #17, then I wouldn't be so negative about drafting a WR 1st round, and take a player of that caliber. I would have to disagree about drafting bpa in the 1st round and limiting ourselves to just the DE, WR, or CB positions, and just look for overall best talented player period no matter the position @ #17 to make our team better, and I will give ya Koonie not taking a kicker or punter 1st round! Because this team has alot of needs still, they are close to being a playoff team but I'm frankly just sick of being considered a playoff team contender and want us to strive towards a superbowl championship, not settle for just playoffs, look at the G-men this year and the vikes blew them out!
