0 Mankato-Ice-Man
PS3 is made for higher end graphics, has a built in hard drive so no more memory cards, and most importantly, will have games being made for it for somet time, PS2 gmaes will start tailing off. There are 2 versions of the PS3, they differ by 100.00. For the question you asked, the cheaper PS3 would be your best choice. If it doesnt have to be Sony and you dont mind waiting a few weeks to find one, grab a Nintendo Wii. Great family game system, less expensive. Graphics are about the same as the PS2, but the games are a blast. We got one for the family gift this year and my 5 year old was playing the bowling game that came with it and was having a blast!Good luck! 0 hoggs222
I would also second a Wii. I bought mine the day it came out over a year ago. I brought it to my parents house last Thanksgiving and my Dad saw how much fun my nieces had with it that he went and bought one. My Mom & Dad both play it. 0 wishing for walleyes
A ps2 will work just fine for you and theres lots of cheap games for it.
0 fishtrap3
The only problem is the games being made will be phased out for the ps2. As stated above you cant go wrong with the wii for the price... My kids love it.. But I am thinking once the ps3 comes down in price we may own one of them as well.. 0 Dave
My sons just unwraped a PS3...LOL. The old PS2 quit working anyhow. PS2's are about $130 while a 40GB PS3 is $399 and 80GB PS3 is $499. Graphic detail is the main difference as far as just playing a game.
0 gman2002
yea i know there is a bit of a price dif ! and for how much it would be used i don't know if i can justify 400 bucks. look at the money i'd have left if i bought the ps2 and all the new jason mitchell rods i could buy
0 delcecchi
On the other hand you get a blue ray high def dvd player with the ps3. If you have a high def tv to look at it with, that might be of value. Otherwise buy a wii, unless you are into shooter games.
0 GatorBait
I have a Wii, it's cool, the gameplay interactivness is unique and won't be beat for some time. <---That's why people have them, not because of graphics. I actually did a side by side with a PS3 today as my buddy finally got his. PS3 graphics are totally off the wall compared to a wii. Both displays were done on High Def and there was a noticeable dispaly difference. If you like PS which I do and love great graphics, ps3 is for you. If you like interactive play with your games and don't mind Great but not godly graphics than wii is for you. PS3 with blueray is the kicker and prolly the decision factor with most people. I'm a MMORPG gamer so it's either Im on my PC, my Wii or Ice fishing, I don't watch tv or movies much. Good Luck and Have Fun
0 1luckydad
Santa just brought a WII with Guitar hero III to our home last night!! My wife and son are having a blast with it at this very moment. My son says it is awesome. It's just to bad that fat bearded guy gets all the credit. I am by no means a game head, but I can't help but wonder, what the Rapala fishing game for the WII is like?? Maybe Santa deserves a game. What do ya think?? 0 smilee_54
If you can't justify the 400 price tag and you want something for the grandkids I think and older system would do. If they don't have anything to do they will play it. Try to find a place that sells used systems. We have a place down here that sells used system I think they are going for about 50 bucks that just an option then you can get more rods. Alot of the older games are selling for 20 bucks. Newer one of course are higher
0 MattNy
it really just depends on what kind of games the grandkids are going to play. if they are older then you might want to get the ps3 because it has better games and graphics. if they are younger get the ps2, save some money and buy a few games for it. i'm sure if they are younger they wont care about graphics and stuff like that just as long as the games are fun.
