Ice fishing 2007-2008

Recommended Posts

Should I bring my waders tommorow morning king? Can you go tomorrow, Off Bib or LC? how's 0630 at the diner? Let me know I would like to get into some of those "C"igars and maybe a nice bull gill or two... I like the quality of ice there from your report.

I don't know bout Oneida, but 5-6" of black ice, that means it's going very quickly... Once it starts on the Big O it always goes fast. Doug said the water this year is a bit higher than normal even though it's regulated and he's starting to see some shore ice pushing up on his dock area in Jewel pretty fast, it's starting to sink a bit.

I know it stays 5 deg. colder in the valley...Were supposed to get 1-3" of snow with a high of 34 deg...

Here's Richfield Springs, NY tomorrow.

Friday: A chance of snow showers before 1pm. Partly cloudy, with a high near 32. Wind chill values as low as zero. Breezy, with a west wind between 22 and 24 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 15. West wind between 8 and 18 mph.

I maybe just do some driving and shore testing, very windy.. Unless I can be protected there will be no fishing for me tomorrow, will see...

Manlius Mike is checking the north shore and Toad Harbor for an option for tomorrow, I'll report. My options are open but that wind wants me tucking in somewhere where I can get out of those "trap flipping" gusts (Right Franky ;\)\:D and it might just be E-Banks saw some nice gills and a crappie come out Monday and Lee say's it can be great in there late ice, bringing the waders...

Call from Z - Boat launch ice is good to go out of... There is a small crack but you can walk right over it no problem. Three traps south off hyder. He's driving over to LC checking the shallows first and depending on if the 20 mph NW winds calm may make it over to the 3 shacks but not unless the wind dies down...

Well Rob's leaving the lake and the fishing was not that great 3 keepers, wind was not as bad off bakers later on in the morning. Depending on Mike's report and in discussions with Tank I am gonna ask Todd if he want's to take a drive to E-Banks with me in the morning to give it a look see. I will call Frank to throw up a post with what we find there so you guys know.. More later...

Very nice Jay.. cool.gif Report from Manlius Mike both Berhard's Bay and Taft Bay accesses remained firm :)and he walked out on both no problems, Toad Harbor still locked up. If it wasn't for the wind tomorrow... crazy.gif Anyway waiting for Dumac to check-in with a south shore report and seeing if Chris can take a peak at E-Banks.

great work as usual Jay. Might need to request a one piece 6'8" medium action spinning rod with single feet and a fast action tip. . . in my school colors . . . black, grey and gold. Or request help in making one.

Thanks for all the updates guys. Just haven't had the energy to post the last few days. Been busy and tired. Hoped to go today but the winds were strong when I woke so I passed. We've got the Wake & Mass on Monday and burial on Tues and then we try for a more normal lifestyle. Sure hope to get out with you all once more!!

New ink to come, left shoulder, some type of a cross with the words, "my cross to bear" worked in some how. Just a way for me to heal and never forget.

Thanks for all the conditions posts.

Current report from Tim and Todd on E-backs . . . well as of an hour ago: 18 bluegills, 3 crappies; wind is very bad; ice is 6-7 black and 4 white; 3 inches of fresh snow from last night causing the shoreline to be a little punky, but did not go through. Fish on the screen in the weeds and playing peek a boo with the gill pill. Thinks they are pulling off and calling it a day due to the winds. Tomorrow looks questionable if winds are as bad.

The bite was slowing and the wind was blowing but we managed to relase a couple dozen nice sunfish and Todd caught 3 crappies as well, biggest was 11.5" As we were leaving for lunch we ran into Kirkville1 on the road and we were possibly thinking of going back out again but with the wind being as bad as it was it made no sense in risking another trap dump cry.gif thankfully nothing was lost or broken and it happened as I was bringing Todd a glazed Dippin Donut, go figure... Well off to check wind reports for tomorrow but it looks like short point if the wind stays down Lee.. \:\) And yes I forgot the camera today...

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
