Had a good time thre, you could find me by following the drool. Met up with the Arctic Armor guys, but alas; my christmas shopping fund was tapped out with the new Otter and the little things that kept adding up. Great looking stuff though. If I was to buy, that is what it would be. I'll second the quiet material of the camo version.

Made the rounds then settled in at Thorne Bros to buy. I got a Marcum Icepac, A Mopod, a couple of #3 Chubby Darters, and was sucked in to try the Weed'EZ that were hanging all over the place! I've already got a camera weed from Ladredge, so we'll see if that makes a difference or not. The only issue I see is putting it away wet when it's cold, I'd think you'd have to bring it in every night and thaw it out and dry it out for the next use. No that big of a deal, but something to think about.

Also picked up a Slush inhaler for the Perm house; I just hate spending the first half house in that house getting wet knees while cleaning out 6 holes!

Thanks to all who helped out at Thorne Bros, specifically Matt, and the rest of the people who put that show on for us ice nuts! Another Fine Waste of a Saturday Morning! wink.gifgrin.gif

Picked up a couple of lure lightnings, great guys at the booth, and a spare cutting head for the Nils at marine general. I was going to pick up another rod/reel at Thorne Bros but they were swamped, guess that means I'll just have to make a trip down to the store, man I sure hate that. wink.gif This was my first trip to the show, thought it was great, probably wouldn't need to go every year unless I needed something, who am I kidding don't we always NEED something?

Was pretty impressed with the Frabil insulated houses, especially the red/black ones.

What a great show, I met a few FMers, I got my questions answered, thanks Nature Vision and Artic Armour and I picked up what I wanted (Showdown and PakShak 3) for the price I wanted. After all the research on this board, thanks everyone, and talking to the factory reps I feel great about what I got. I started to price the different suppliers, but call it message board loyalty, I headed right to the Thorne Brothers, they matched what I wanted to pay, and spent time going through the sweetheart rods I keep hearing about. I also tried on my future Armour suit, glad I did, I'm a mix and matcher, bigger bottoms than tops, saw Walleye Dan too! Soon as the funds are there, Dan will be getting my order, and I'll add a couple sweethearts to my collection. I love this board and will continue to support it's sponsors, thanks everyone for your input.

Sweetheart perch rod, tica reel, florice line in 2 & 4 from Thorne Bros.

P.S. Is the Marcum LX-1 really priced at ~200 these days? Almost every vendor had it for around that price. Getting close to biting on a flasher of some sort...

Well it wasn't the best drive from central IA but we made it and glad we did. Got a good deal on some of the Aqua View Weeds. Also picked up a couple more Jason Mitchell Rods I think that Meat Stick will be the rod I use the most "very sweet". Also picked up a few jigs from various vendors dodn't find the Fiskas Wolfram's I was looking for frown.gif

You Minnesota folk are lucky to have such a great show we have nothing like that here in Iowa.

Matt it was good to shake your hand again I hope IceJohn didn't wear you out.

The drive home was alittle shakey lots of cars in the ditch.

I was commenting to someone today at the show that there is really not much tackle at all available. The stuff everyone seamed to carry was the "new" stuff as well, everybody had Lindy Rattl'n Flyer Spoons for sale.

I came to the conclusion that it is really a big pain in the arse to bring all that tackle with, traditionally not a good seller, or too many people with sticky fingers.

Back to the original question... "What did I get at the show??"

Nothing this year. frown.gif

Talked with a lot of old friends, made some new ones, and met some fans from FM as well.

There were a few people I talked with for 5 minutes or more, when they'd ask me "You aren't Hanson from FM are you?"

Well I had a great time at the show on Saturday working the Artic Armor booth. Both the IDI and Walleye Dan's booths were hopping with folks checking out, trying on and buying suits. Was a pretty busy place. I did however take a break mid afternoon to check out the new 36" panfish sweetheart at the Thorne Bros. booth. They only had one left when I got there and when I left they were out. wink.gif Also picked up a Thorne rod case to fit the longer rod as well as an nice Abu Cardnel 100 reel. Talked with Matt and Pat there for awhile which is something I look forward to.

Saw and talked with lots of FMers who were working or checking out the show. It's always fun talking fishing with good folks.

First off, thank all of you FMers and all the rest of the folks that stopped by our Arctic Armor booth. We had a fantastic show and it ceratinly looks like the word is out. It was very nice to put some faces to names. Thank you to Joel, Borch, Deitz and Hanson for helping out as well. I had an idea that the word was getting out, but wasn't thinking it was going to be that crazy, we had to take a lot of orders because we ran out of a number of sizes. We have a new batch coming in this week and will also be ordering up this a.m.. I came away with some Northland Tackle, some hook-out stuff from our neighbor from Ohio, some custom rods from Keith, and some great ideas for our new shop. I am thinking that the Marcum rod/fasher bag is a great idea and that I will most likely be purchasing a few of them for our rental business. Oh, almost forgot about my new Arctic Fisherman tip-ups (cribbage board and camo).

Thanks again,

Walleyedan

Hey All, I was helping out at the Fishapalooza booth all weekend. I was the pushy guy who's lips never stopped flapping! I got to meet many of you while I was handing out fliers, can coolies, and Northland jigs. Thanks for mentioning where you heard about us and were FM-ers!

I picked up a bigger pair of Mickey Mouse boots for my boy, a couple of air soft guns, and another pair of heavyweight military polypro tops and bottoms from State Publications.

I've been dealing with him for over 10 years, great stuff and good deals!

I also picked up one of those large hockey type bags super cheap! They are going to be great for all the hunting/fishing trips where I pack too much.

I missed out on the plastic hole liners that keep your ducer from tangling. Anybody know where you can pick them up locally? It looked like they were selling like hot cakes!

Of course we kept the beef stick girl in business as well as well as the beer guy wink.gif

See you on the Lake,

Ferny

No big ticket items for me this year at the show, although my wife got me a strike-lite for my birthday, which I'm excited to start using.

Picked up a thorne bros rod bag and assorted tackle (all 20% off) from them. Got some rope lights ($6), little vexilar tackle box ($5) from Reeds, and an auger extension for said new auger from the strikemaster booth for $5.

I surprised myself for not overdoing it this year!

All in all, it was a fun afternoon seeing all the new products, and I already have an eye on a new flip over next year.

    • Truly sorry to hear that duffman! I know that feeling.  Keep the good memories
    • Chamois passed away this weekend a couple days short of her 13th bday. What a great dog to hang out with here at home and on distant adventures. Gonna miss ya big time my little big girl.
    • Sounds pretty sweet, alright. I will check them out, thanks.
    • If you really want to treat your wife (and yourself) with a remote operated trolling motor, the Minn Kota Ulterra is about easy as it gets.  Auto stow and deploy is pretty awesome.  You just have to turn the motor on when you go out and that the last time you have to touch it.   24V 80lb.  60 inch shaft is probably the right length for your boat.  They ain’t cheap - about $3k - but neither one of you would have to leave your seat to use it all day.
    • Wanderer, thanks for your reply. I do intend for it to be 24 volt, with a thrust of 70-80. Spot lock is a must (my wife is looking forward to not being the anchor person any more).  With my old boat we did quite a lot of pulling shad raps and hot n tots, using the trolling motor. Unlikely that we will fish in whitecaps, did plenty of that when I was younger. I also need a wireless remote, not going back to a foot pedal. We do a fair amount of bobber fishing. I don't think I will bother with a depth finder on the trolling motor. I am leaning toward moving my Garmin depth finder from my old boat to the new one, just because I am so used to it and it works well for me. I am 70 years old and kinda set in my ways...
    • Dang, new content and now answers.   First, congrats on the new boat!   My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V.  80 might be tops?  I’m partial to MinnKota.     How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.     All weather or just nice weather?   Casting a lot or bait dragging?   Bobber or panfish fishing?   Spot lock?  Networked with depth finders?  What brand of depth finders?
    • We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor,  wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will want for this boat?  Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke  Mariner motor)  I will appreciate any help with these questions.
